Q: Movie rental on Verizon rented iPads.

I rented and downloaded a movie from iTunes to watch on a plane later.  Once on the plane it appeared that I can only stream the movie, not watch it without wi-fi. Verizon are saying that this is correct, some form of copyright argument.

Is this correct or am I being "slow"?

Verizon is not correct, at least not as iTunes rentals are intended. Everything from the iTunes Store, sales or rentals, is downloaded. So at least in most cases, once a rental is completely downloaded to your device, you can watch it without needing a network connection.

In some cases, though, iTunes seems to insist on a connection to the iTunes Store for authorization, even with the movie completely downloaded. I've not been able to determine any reason from the various reports why it works correctly for some but not for others. So the safe play is to plan on only purchased movies for your trips and use rentals for when you know you'll have an Internet connection.

    Regards.
