when i started my macbook for the first time after replacing drive and ram, it beeps continuously and the screen stays black. What did I do wrong?

With that much work that you did inside your MBP, it is almost impossible to say what you did wrong.

I would suggest that you reinstall the old RAM and try that to see if it makes a difference.

You probably did not install the memory properly or you may have purchased memory with the wrong specifications.

Did you attempt booting the computer with your installer DVD? Have you partitioned and formatted the new drive?
