I would like to know how to lock the screen. Can someone help me with that... I went to ...Settings.... then General... which told me to use Side Switch I don't know what they mean by side switch...

Know where your volume rocker switch is? The side switch is right under that
It can either be used as 'all mute' or 'rotation lock' so if your flip it and your rotation doesnt lock (and you don't see the little padlock with a circular arrow) go into the settings, general and look for 'use side switch for....' and make the appropriate choice.
That would be the hardware switch on the right side of the device.
