Would you be more specific. What updates are you referring to?
Ciao.
What he said.
sanjanpet, greetings: Your post is a nebulous as that of the OP. I get update notifications from from Adobe for example. It may be that, or it may Apple Updates or something else? Perhaps I'm being is obtuse here.
Ciao.
Maybe you have ne a lttle confused, I meant that check that they are valid software updates. I guess i am wrong, yet again
sanjampet, greetings; Let's just see if the OP responds.
Ciao.
I must be a dolt, thank the cyber folks such as you that keep this runing. I will keep your post in my folder to try to help me learn. Thank you, SJP
...Software Updates notification from the App Store. Particularly the "HP Printer Software Update 2.13" that if I install, "breaks" my ability to print. One of these days I'm going to forget and install the "new" software and then my printing ability will again be "updated" to inoperable!
I checked the App Store and I cannot find any way of disabling the Update feature. I also cannot find in the App Store any HP printer software. Are you certain the the updates are coming from the App Store? Some guidance or additional information on your part may be useful.
This is all I could find from the App Store Help;
Ciao.
Not sure what else you're being troubled with, but printer updates would normally come via Software Update.
In the SU window, select and uncheck the update.
Go to the menu bar, 'Update' menu, and select 'Ignore Update'. It won't trouble you again, although any later updates will still be offered as they're issued. Just repeat the procedure for those and any other unwanted updates via SU.
noondaywitch, thanks for the response...your suggestion appears to be exactly what I need to do. However, I'm unable to follow your steps, being a new mac user. On my Macbook Pro, OS X, version 10.8.2, when I select Software Update...this is what I get:
I do not see how to "uncheck" the update and then "Ignore Update"...I'm sure this is a case of
operator error...etc.
This is a feature in Mt. Lion (I am using Lion on my MBP) System Preferences>Software Update. It looks like you can uncheck 'Automatically check for updates' you can achieve your objective, assuming HP updates are incorporated into that.
The image you displayed is from the App Store, and as I mentioned earlier, I do not believe that you can alter that.
Ciao.
No, it's not operator error, kwest.
Oglethorpe has the explanation.
If it were doing it via Software Update, "Software Update" would appear in the Window title-bar.
You can check the menus at the top of the screen though to see if anything is offered there.
(I can't as I don't use ML)
OGELTHORPE & noondaywitch, thanks for taking the time to help. It appears that the "Mountain Lion" "improvements" have added some inflexibility when it comes to certain things. I'll uncheck "Automatically check for updates" and see how that works. I'm sure sometime next year I'll forget about the update that I'd prefer to ignore and install it...
