First iOS 6.0.1 and yesterday iOS 6.1 downloaded automatically without my intervention. Just the message 'downloaded' and ready to install. It would be good to find out what is happening because It's not a normal bahaviour. Any solutions for 1) disabling automatic iOS downloading and 2) deleting not accepted file occupying space???
Unfortunately it's a normal behavior.
I think that the normal behavior is to accept the download first from the settings menu and it's not what happened twice in my device. Before this two cases mentioned I had no problems at all so I only downloaded when I wanted and not automatically without any consent. It's strange...
Updating is NOT automatic. It has to be initiated at your end. You, or someone handling the phone had to do so.
After iOS 6, every time I ignored the update for some days (3-5), I found the update already downloaded.
In 4 different devices.

Ambien is a sleeping med that's been associated with sleepwalking and carrying out complex behaviors like driving, cooking, even murdering which are completely forgotten after waking. I suppose updating iPhone could be one, but I meant it in jest.
My wife's iPhone and iPad have not yet been updated to 6.1, and won't till I get around to doing it for her.

If you don't mind wait a few days just to check if its true. I didn't saw the badge in Settings icon (I saw the available update if I went to Settings>General>Software update) but some days later I saw the badge and when went into settings the update was already downloaded.
The update will not install unless someone manually chooses to do so and accepts the end user agreement. Never.

No, the message states that it's "available to install." Nothing at all about being downloaded.
If you did download it, declining the "Terms and Conditions" agreement will delete it.

I never saw this on any of my devices, However, if you tap Install Now, then decline the end user agreement - it will be deleted, and no space occupied.
