"insert" > "section" causes unwanted blank page for numbering

I have a section/page numbering problem.

I want to start page numbering on the 5th page (Chapter One). But.. when I insert a Section Break between the end of the TOC and first Chapter (where I want re-numbering to start) it causes a blank page to be inserted after the TOC and before the section break...

How do I insert a section break between TOC and Heading that's set to "start new page" without getting blank page?

Thanks for your reply. There is absolutely NOTHING between the TOC "Box" and the Section mark. I already have "Show Invisibles On"

With cursor at insert point just before my first Chapter text I space back ONE and the auto TOC box highlights. I put insert pt at point just before first Chapter (immediately following TOC box) and "insert section mark" and a blank page inserts between the TOC and the secton mark.

Menu > View > Page Thumbnails

The invisible can reside in the "cracks" between objects and page boundaries, check at what point you have section divisions by clicking on the thumbnails. The thumbnails of each section will be surrounded in yellow.

If that doesn't fix it click on my blue name and email me the problem doc and I'll see exactly where the problem is and how to fix it.

I could not "step back" as you say. If I was at insert point and "stepped back" the TOC "box" simply highlighted. I had to enter a blank space (plain text style- don't start new page) before the Heading and "backup" before it. But once the section mark was there the "extra" space could be taken out and the section mark remained...

Very Odd! When you "stepped" back one in the original doc didn't the TOC highligh and "insert section" was not active (dimmed)?

Anyway... you solved my issue. Thank You!

Thanks I've got your file and have fixed it. It had to do with the way you constructed it.

This is how to do what I did after I deleted your existing T.O.C.:

1 click at foot of Title page > Menu > Insert > Section Break

2 Type "Table of Contents" return > Menu > Insert > Table of Contents

3 Menu > Insert > Section Break

If there is a return at the beginning of the Introduction page just delete it.

I also tidied up your layout a bit and have emailed it back.
