Opening pptx files

Hi everyone !

I'm trying to open the pptx files uploaded by my professor.

I have purchased and installed Microsoft Office for Mac 2011.

However, every time I go to open the pptx file it downloads as a zip file.

After unzipping it results in a bunch of xml and html files, none of which even relate to the original powerpoint.

My classmates who only have Open Office don't even have this problem, and the powerpoint simply opens when clicking on the link.

Please help !
