I have a mid 2012 MBA that I purchased in late Nov 2012. Read about this SMC update on 9 to 5 Mac.
Doesn't show up in update. They aren't very clear about which MacBooks these are for .....do I need this?

That's because it's for older models. Note that Apple says that this SMC update is for "some Apple notebooks", so probably your MacBook doesn't have that bug and it doesn't need that SMC update

No, this update does not apply to this model. Here's a list of exactly which models are affected:

Thank you both! Sometimes sites like 9 to 5, MacRumors,etc Make it sound like "everyone" is effected....I should have focused on the word "some" No...I'm sure Apple is probably very aware of what my Mac needs. ;-)

Glad to help. It sounds like you probably do this already, but checking for updates using either the App Store or the old "Software Update" method from the menu should catch all the SMC updates you might need.
