Authorized Apple Resellers.... ????

Does anyone know when Apple's authorized resellers will be getting stock of the 17" MBP?

I e-mailed Amazon and they told me they were told the 17" MBP's are on back order and they don't expect stock until the end of May.

I would like to know this as well. I purchased a MBP 17" from the reseller in town at the start of May and the only switch I made was to get the 7200 RPM drive.

I was told 7-10 days and 7-10 days (one delivery one upgrade). But then yesterday I heard a story second hand that someone else ordered a different Mac computer from them before that was spec'd out and after 6 months of not receiving it the person cancelled their order -- this scares me a little. Especially considering the price of the MBP is the same on Apple's site as what I paid (in Canada) but it was easier to go through the reseller as I was making more purchases than just the MBP (software, accessories etc).

I'm getting the sense that there issues with Apple supplying the computers. The dates on the Apple store continue to oscilate. is was 5-7 days, then 3-5 then back to 5-7. Also, people are seeing really long shipping estimates, while others seem to be jumping to the front of the line. I just chalk it up to trying to release a new product that everyone is so excited about. Apple knows how bitchy people can be about their products, so if they need to wait an extra day, they will do so to get it right...which in the long run saves EVERYONE a lot of time.

I just received my tracking information from Amazon.
It shipped today and I'll have it on Monday.

You're talking about the 17" MBP right? When did you order it? I ordered mine on April 25. I called their customer service yesterday, and they said they are scheduled to receive them from their supplier on May 29. My order still shows as "not yet shipped".

I also e-mail amazon twice asking when they would get
them in. Maybe the "squeaky wheel got the oil". I
don't know.

I complained too, by phone. Long story, crazy rebate issue. But in the process, they told me May 29 as when they're expecting them in, and they upgraded my shipping to one day shipping for free. Not a problem though, I'm not in a big hurry. Aw who am I kidding, I can't wait! 🙂

Oddly enough, I do remember when I ordered my MBP on April 25, amazon's site said "pre-order". A few days later I remember it saying "ships in 1-2 weeks". Then after a few hours, it mysteriously switched again, saying what it says now, "in stock soon". Maybe you ordered it when it said "ships in 1-2 weeks", and amazon shipped those orders first for some reason?

In any event, hope you enjoy your new MBP!

Just an FYI - I ordered from Amazon on April 25th as well. Still no shipping notice, and my order status says - Shipping estimate: June 26, 2006. I'm resisting the urge to move this order to the Apple Store, but because of all the QC issues the MBP's have been having, and Amazon's amazing return policy (as well as the $150 rebate), I'm going to stick it out.

But the suspense is killing me. I REALLY need to know if this machine is going to be as horrific as all 4 of my returned 15 inchers were.
