Suddenly Unable to send emails from Macbook but can receive

I have checked the outgoing port (587) & smtp address SSL is ticked & password and user correct but it just says cannot connect to the server on port 587. The settings are all the same on my Ipad & Iphone and they are able to send emails but not my MacBook.. I am at a total loss as to what to do. I have even tried to delete the account and make a new one but still is will not send. To add to this further I have now resorted to using Outlook 2011 and set up the accounts with exactly the same details and can send emails on that but would prefer to use macmail so really want to sort it. Can anyone help please??

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Thank you for your help. I have just been on the phone to my internet provider BT because the problem has only occured since I received my new router.. They went through everything(I had Already Done) and then put me through to their 2nd layer of technical help and he had to remote access the computer. There apparently was an issue with the new router and the name of my computer(it had an apostrophe in it which the new router did not like). He changed that and everything worked fine. So now you know lol.. Once again thank you for trying to help me🙂
