How do I put a bootable SL OS on an 8GB flash memory stick?

I have made a disk image of my Snow Leopard installation DVD with Disk Utility.

How do I put the disk image on a memory stick so that it will be bootable.

Once it is made, how do I boot into it ?

I know that for a DVD you hold down the C key during startup. Will this work or do I need to do something different?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), Little knowledge... many opinions.

Have you tried Disk Utility>Restore?
