Before upgrading to OSX Mountain Lion from Lion, my mail and iCloud connections were fine. Now, the connection is almost non-existent (iCloud "connecting" forever, mail icon jumps). My network is good. Any solutions?

Does anyone know how to eliminate the "jumping mail icon" that stems from iCloud not connecting correctly? I just upgraded to Mountain Lion from Lion and before, everything was fine, but now the synch between iCloud and mail seems to be out of whack and the "connection doctor" doesn't help and nothing seems to get rid of the problem.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), resynch mail and iCloud
