why does itunes synce all of my songs to my iphone and ignores those i have unchecked?

on the summary screen in iTunes do you have the option

Only sync checked songs (or something like that) enabled?

yes ,but it is being ignored as unchecked songs, Christmas songs, are still downloaded on my iphone.

one other thought - do you have the option checked in syncing music that says (something) like

Fill my phones avaialble space?

maybe there is a conflict there between that an only sync checked songs
