I have a major battery drain issue as well. My 4S phone is the lifeblood of my job and I can't deal with this. I've read a ton of these "voodoo" steps to fix the battery on various forums. And while I appreciate everyone's willingness to help, this is totally unacceptable by Apple. Where is formal communication from Apple in all of this? Where is an email from Apple giving us assurance that this will be repaired? I have had to discount my iphone and get a Samsung because of this. Totally poor customer service. Has anyone seen anything from Apple?

So since the upgrade to 6.1 I too cannot keep the battery charged, I have restored it several times, tried all the tricks I have seen so far. I refuse to accept that it's a hardware issue that just so happen to occur at the exact time I upgraded. Seems like this is a major issue for a number of users. I thought I solved it last night, however after sitting on my nightstand for 7 hours I went from 85% to 0 - with no usage. It does certainly seem worse when I have an email account setup for sure.

So I installed 6.1 on my 2 month old iPhone 5 on Monday and the battery life has become terrible. Yesterday I needed to charge my phone THREE times.

Went to bed last night and unplugged the charger and my iPhone was on 90%. Woke up 7 hours later and the battery had drained to 38% - thats over 50% battery gone in 7hrs just sitting there.

I did a clean restore and restore from backup. No joy.

Yesterday I turned off: Siri, Location Services, Bluetooth. Which pretty much defeats the point of having a smart phone if you need to constantly turns settings on and off as you need them.

It has to be said, my iphone was working fine until I upgraded. Doesn't seem to be an legitimate way of returning my iPhone to 6.0.1

But hey, this contract is only costing me a fortune each month for the next 22 months so all is not lost!!!

Thanks Apple.

When I was using my iPhone as a 'warming pad' (battery drain was so high, the iPhone was hot), I ended up buying app 'System Status', which allowed me to view the system log. This is what allowed me to identify my problem was Exchange sync.

The only issue is that subsequent IOS updates seem to have reduced the amount of info logged in the system log, but it may prove useful in assisting with your diagnosis.

However, the app does give you something akin to 'unix top', in it's processes display (you have to drag down to refresh, but it does show runtime of all the various processes)

Something else I have also found is that if I double tap the home button, I close all the apps that are shown. I do this fairly regularly, basically leaving only a few regularly used apps running.

Good luck.

Assuming a recent reboot.

Under the Overview tab, does the 'CPU Usage' graph show a pretty typical usage of around 10%? If more, there may be an issue, my iPhone 4s running IOS 6.1 is cruising at around 7.0% with the following running

  • System Status in the foreground
  • Messages
  • Phone
  • Contacts
  • Calendar (synced to my OwnCloud)
  • Music
  • Mail (with 3 separate IMAP accounts)
  • Reminders (synced to my OwnCloud)
  • Clock (3 alarms)
  • Notes

I found that using the 'Details->System Log' helped me to identify recurring errors that happen in very close time frames - ignore log messages that are more than 60 seconds apart, with regard to trying to resolve this.

The 'processes' tab, look at the runtime for all the processes. Are any significantly higher than the rest? Drag the list down to refresh, does one process seem to be consuming more CPU?

These are just how I managed to find my problem, admittedly, on an older version of IOS, but on the same model phone (4s 64gb).
