what is the best browser to use with os x 10.6.8

i am currently using snow leopard 10.6.8 and safari 5.1.7 and having issues with security, force closes, screen blackouts/flashes and overall freezes. i typically use google as a search engine trying to stay within the "https" relm but we all know how difficult that can be. since there are no future updates coming for either snow leopard/safari (to run on snow leopard) is there a better/more stable/more secure browser i can use?

MacBook (13-inch Late 2009), Mac OS X (10.6.8), Safari 5.1.7

Probably only Firefox. Chrome is, in my view, a doubtful prospect, Being related to Google is no privilege and from experience, their extentions are not always secure.

What I would say is, don't be pressed into upgrading to Lion / Mountain Lion for some extra browser benefits. Snow Leopard is an excellent OS X, far better than Lion and despite not being supported is still a totally reliable program.

Is your memory level high enough? Safari is something of a hogg with memory.
