I keep getting 'check signal cable; on Samsung tv when connecting macbook using HDMI cable

Please help, I want to connect my laptop to my Samsung plasma TV. I am using a mini display port to hdmi adapter and then a hdmi cable to the tv. It keeps showing a 'check signal cable' error message.

I have tried another HDMI cable (which works on another device) but it still does not work.

Hep please

Thanks

I had the same problem with an older laptop. The solution was to firstly, use the white HDMI adaptor that came with laptop and connect a male to male HDMI cable to the HDMI socket on the back of my Samsung and/or my Philips monitor. However, I have two HDMI cables and it only seems to work with one but not the other.

I discovered there are different types of DVI cable and you can see everything here http://www.datapro.net/techinfo/dvi_info.html

If you have the wrong type of cable, it will not work. Mine is a DVI-D dual link and it works a treat.

Hope it helps.

OK, OK, I think I've solved it. Once again, I'm no techie but I hate not solving a problem, so I dug deeper, learned Korean last night and found thid solution - it's free and takes one minute.

As I thought originally, the problem stems from the Samsung expecting a TV signal in the HDMI port so you have to tell it it's a computer signal.

Go from the Mac HDMI socket to the Monitor HDMI socket with an HDMI cable.

Go to the Samsung input/source button on the remote and on that screen select tools.

Select 'edit name'

Scroll down to PC and press enter. It should now read HDMI - PC

Under apple 'system prefs - displays, select your monitor pref - mine is 1080p

and... BINGO, it should work.

If it works for you guys, I accept gifts of beer and public praise with no problem.

Hi Guys !

If you are using the Samsung TV with Apple TV then just press the "Menu" button from Samsung Remote, then go to Input, then choose the HDMI cable and select that and restart your Samsung TV. It will work prefectely.

But If you are using any other TV like LG, Sony or Philips TV with Apple TV then you need to go to the settings and then mark HDMI as default. And I'm sure It will work for you, if you will follow these steps correctely..Thanks !
