Quicktime will not open

Double clicking on the icon does not open Quicktime. I can see that Quicktime is running by the looks of the top (finder) bar and I am able to make changes to it if I want to but no window. It also shows running on the dock. Right clicking on the icon on the dock and selecting anything from there does nothing to launch the Quicktime window. I have only one desktop running.
