When ever I try to open my vidoes it says " The movie is not in a format that Quicktime Player understands . You may need to install additional software to install this type of file . " It is currently on ( .MPG ) format . I've changed it to many different ones . But nothing seems to happen . Can someone please help me ?

But how do I play it on Imovie ? And like edit the video ?
You may have to convert the video to a format iMovie can accept. Open the movie in VLC, open the Media Information from the Window menu, select the Codec Details tab and expand the items so you can see the information. Post the types given for the audio and video codes here and then perhaps we can provide further advice.

to convert the video to QuickTime format. If that balks - it's not clear to me from what you posted whether the video is MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 and Streamclip can't handle MPEG-2 without Apple's MPEG-2 Playback component - try Handbrake:
