jam pack issues

Hello,

years ago I invested in all the jampacks for garageband, they are on my computer (Macbook Pro).

But they do not show up in the instrument selection list, and I do not like this, obviously :-)

When I open a previous project with, for example, cello`s and violins from the Orchestra Jam Pack, it plays these instruments - but I cannot select them, or select other types of cello`s,...

But when I open a new project, I can nowhere find them in Garageband, it`s really frustrating. But I`m managing these frustration ;-)

And when I look and search for them on the HD, no success, even as hidden files.

Anyone a fix? Greatly appreciated, thanks!!! Otherwise it`s a waste of almost 300 €!

I cannot believe Apple will just sit and watch, please Apple, take up responsability and help me,

grrrrrrrrreatly appreciated.

Or anyone else on the forum, thanks, thanks.

Steven,

What happened, before your JamPacks vanished? Did you reinstall or upgrade the system? Migrate to a newer mac? If you migrarted your system, is your older mac still available?

If the Jam Pack instruments are missing, check your Instrument Library. The instruments should be installed in the folder

/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/

Does the Instrument Library contain folders like:

/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/Sampler/Sampler Files/Cellos/Cellos-L_tremolo_mf/

If not, you need to restore these folders from your backup, or copy them from your older mac, if you migrated the system.

Thanks a l ot Leonie.

No, that folder is empty, it does not exist.

But the instruments are on my mac, they are played by old garageband projects, but the files seem to be missing.

I cannot locate even the visible jam packs on my mac, for example, the remix jam pack i s seen in garageband, but the others not.

I did an earlier install on this computer as dar as I remember.

When I would even find a backup, they would still fill up HD space, really strange.

Any more hints, feel free.

Kindly,

Steven

Steven,

are the missing instruments from real instrument loops or are you looking for the software instruments, like "Orchestra Cello Section"?

The "real instrument loops", like "Avenger Cello 1" might have been stored directly inside the older GB project - look into the package: ctrl click the GB project and select: Show package contents - you could see something like "Avenger Cello 01.caf" inside the Media folder, if you stored your GB project as an Archive project.

Do you still have your Jam Pack installation media? If you want to install them using the original media, that will not work with all JamPacks. Some installers use PowerPC applications, that cannot run on Mt. Lion or Lion. You will have to rip the DVDs and install manually. HangTime has instructions on how to do this in the FAQ:

http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/GBFAQ.html#installjampack107

(Let the page FULLY load. The link to your answer is at the top of your screen)

I did an earlier install on this computer as dar as I remember.

And how did you reinstall? Wipe the disk for a clean install and install everything new? And then migrate with Migration Assistant? Then the JamPacks Instruments will not have been reinstalled. Migration assistant seems to forget them, see Christoph Drösser's post:

Migration doesn't copy Instrument Library

Then the easiest way to fix this would be to find a backup and to restore the instrument library:

/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/

Thank you so much Leonie for your helpful answers, I really appreciate!!

SInce I`m in the middle of unpacking all my boxes (I just moved) I did not found my Jampack dvd`s very quickly. Now I have them, and will install them next week, following your instructions.

Well, how I installed my computer? Not sure anymore, for there was a big hardware bug when I bought it, and for nearly a year I had done several fresh installs, and instalations with migration too.

I will just re-install the garageband jampacks, and yes, I`ll check if those loops are saved in the project,

all the best!
