color fill text boxes using inspector

When I create a text box and want to fill it. I select the text box, choose inspector, click the graphic tab, and the "color fill" under fill. But, after I do this once, I can't seem to change the color from this panel. I can choose one of the other pop up menus (gradient, for example). I can only change the basic color from the fill box in the main menu bar. What am I missing?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8), 15" 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 4GB AG

You drag the color from the large top panel in the Color Picker to the fill panel in the Graphics Inspector whilst the object is selected.

Pages is inconsistent in the way it applies color, sometimes just letting you click on a swatch, other times making you go this more circuitious route.

So, If I create a text box, change the color once, the inspector won't let me change the color with FILL. I can use the other pop up options. Odd, I can use the menu bar quick pop up to change the color, but not the inspector. Do you see this?

one odd bit....if I click on and open colors from the menu bar selector, it works. If I click on a text box, then choose inspector from the menu bar icon, it doesn't work.

figured it out. You have to click on the little square box INSIDE the Inspector/graphic pop up menu box.
