Q: 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory) running OS 10.8.2.  It has two graphics components: an AMD Radeon HD 6750M and a built-in Intel HD Graphics 3000. Since I've had the computer, the screen would get a blue tint when the computer switched between them.

However, as of two days ago, the problem has become substantially more severe.  The computer was working fine, when all of a suddent the screen when completely blue.  I had to force restart the computer.  Since then, the screen has gone awry on numerous occassions - each time necessitating a hard reset.

I installed gfxCardStatus, and have discovered that the computer runs fine using the integrated card, but as soon as I switch to the discrete card - the screen goes .

I am just wondering what my options are (any input on any of these would be appreciated!):

1) Replace the logic board.  Would this necessarily fix the issue?

2) Is there any way to "fix" the graphics card?

3) Keep using gfxCardStatus and only use the integrated graphics card.  This is definitely the easiest/cheapest option, but to have such a computer and not be able to use the graphics card seems like a real shame.

4) Is there any other alternative?

You don't get to choose who posts here, you have authority over yourself, you can choose to use it or not. It does not extend farther than that.

Oh. Aren't you the chap that made up the false story about Apple and EU exemptions?

    Got any more?

Who said I was choosing anything? I was just merely stating a fact.

If you do some research you'll find I'm not the chap who was talking about Apple's EU exemptions mate.

The topic is about sporadic 2011 Macbook Pro GPU failures mainly happening around the 3 year lifespan. Can you find me a link for that explaining it in detail or are you going to make more useless noise to an audience of very annoyed consumers?

Can't you stop making things up?

The subject of this thread is 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card

it says so at the top of every page.

Obviously you haven't read the OP in its entirety. Either that or you are just keeping the truth relative to your argument.

    Why do you keep arguing?

Does anybody else have a Macbook Pro 2011 with a GPU failure to contribute to this post today?

    Which is also not true.

    See what I mean?

Yeah I was trolling you because of your argument about EU legislation with others earlier.

That's fine, it confirms that you do not bother to post the truth.

I've posted my experience and what I think is wrong with my Mac.

I went out and spent $10 on a call recording app specifically so the Apple community can hear what I am going through, and even switched from my iPhone to Android and now I am cleaning out contacts I never wanted in the Android.

I am not researching facts for your every demand. You don't even own the affected model of this post. How many posts are you at now on this thread?

What have you contributed to this post? The only thing I can see that would be useful at this point of time is personal experience since there isn't anything official out there.

Anyway I've said my piece and have a life to tend to obviously you will go on all day/night/week/month/year Csound1 being Lvl 8 forum god with 38,000 points.

You may notice a lot of different names appearing then disappearing but I doubt you would realise your soulless witch-hunt for useless truths that don't help a thing is what makes a lot of forum posts useless. How have you not learnt that as a Lvl 8 forum god?

"Forum gods" are an issue Apple needs to address too I think.

Did you inform Apple that you were recording the call, and did you get their permission to publish it?

when I look at the environmental report for the late 2011 MBP 15, it does not indicate that the solder is lead free.  maybe you can point out where it states that it is?

Go to the Apple Environmental link (it's a few posts earlier) then you can read all you want.

Or you could just read the report you asked me to read.

Which states that the machine is lead free.

Thank you very much for your recording, that helps me a great deal for my Genius bar appointment tomorrow.

Also: "It's just a Lemon of a computer" I laughed hard! So true!

You don't have to ask depending on your country, especially if they announce at the start of the call you are being recorded for training and quality purposes.

I own a business so I too can record people for training and quality purposes.

I'll take that as a no then.
