Q: 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory) running OS 10.8.2.  It has two graphics components: an AMD Radeon HD 6750M and a built-in Intel HD Graphics 3000. Since I've had the computer, the screen would get a blue tint when the computer switched between them.

However, as of two days ago, the problem has become substantially more severe.  The computer was working fine, when all of a suddent the screen when completely blue.  I had to force restart the computer.  Since then, the screen has gone awry on numerous occassions - each time necessitating a hard reset.

I installed gfxCardStatus, and have discovered that the computer runs fine using the integrated card, but as soon as I switch to the discrete card - the screen goes .

I am just wondering what my options are (any input on any of these would be appreciated!):

1) Replace the logic board.  Would this necessarily fix the issue?

2) Is there any way to "fix" the graphics card?

3) Keep using gfxCardStatus and only use the integrated graphics card.  This is definitely the easiest/cheapest option, but to have such a computer and not be able to use the graphics card seems like a real shame.

4) Is there any other alternative?

I suggest you research the Nvidia recall regarding Apple as thoroughly as I actually experienced the you can make similar conclusions. But I know you won't it's all about the trolling with you.  I doubt that Apple are going to settle anyway and a lead reball re-profile is by far the best option IMO if you wish to keep your 2011 functioning for as long as it should.  I have units out there working after more a year and I expect them to last.

    To other readers:

Please don't take this Level 8's opinion with even a pinch of salt - the advice is frequently misleading and all about provoking responses and also **** bent on ruining the whole context of this thread.

I have given no advice other than for readers to check for themselves, rather than relying on unsupported statements from anonymous posters, including me.

You just appear to want people to believe whatever you say.

This is not the nVidia recall.

Plenty of members can check out my advice and make up their own minds if it is credible or not - search Gav Mack on macrumors for the past six years will find all my insights aside from this 2011 issue. There is a lot of Macintosh, and bootcamp related answers and will be more than happy for them to look.

If they search your advice on the other hand like I have already I don't think you will be happy  - aside from this thread where you cannot stop posting nonsense they will find a litany of easy questions and answers that even a junior Genius will know in a store.  The very ones that I do my best to not let know I am a very experienced tech - until I ask to speak to the Lead Genius who I can have an intelligent technical discussion with and not listen to the spin and misinformation.

IF it happens which I doubt - it will be remarkably like the Nvidia recall in terms of parameters which I had plenty of experience with unlike yourself who has in reality none whatsoever, apart from casting out the rod and fishing for bites pretending that you do..

"That's all the fact that exist in this thread..."

This is an asinine comment. Fact. I bought my Macbook Pro on March 27th 2011. Fact. My Macbook Pro only lasted 3.2 years before exhibiting many of the issues mentioned in this thread.

Fact. (Or so I believe) many are feeling how I feel. That they've been given the shaft by Apple.

    How's them Facts for you?

You and Gav live on this board. I really suggest you install Tinder and let dem girls do the measuring. That might actually lead somewhere.

Apart from that, my replaced ATI chip works as desired.

LOL - if I lived on here I would be destitute!  Though if csound1 has spent much of this evening advising a company on how to integrate 40 15 retinas into a multi Windows server 2012 network Europe wide he's a rather better tech than I thought!

have fun with tinder - my wild days are long over, I had more than enough of them anyway and plenty to remember!

hope your reball lasts too - time to get tomorrows work organised before bed!

You're here to offer solutions/fixes to the issue most seem to be having in this thread?

    Good luck with the chip.

I have skimmed the 100+ pages... seems there is no easy, reliable fix for this issue.  I just joined the club after updating to Yosemite.

Just going for solidarity here, guess I'll keep checking back for a fix.

Csound1 you are on this forum non-stop during working hours.

Do you work for Apple? If you did it would actually make A LOT of sense. Haha.

You're trying to pick apart everything in this post. Even my recorded phone conversation with Apple.

You always seem to be on Apple's side.

Your profile is suss as too, who would fill their's out in so much detail and even have access to (but not necessarily own) the plethora of Apple products registered to your account?

Your advise on other forum posts matches Apple Genius advise to a "T"!!!

Obvious troll being PAID BY APPLE is obvious.

Makes this situation even more of a "sure thing" in my eyes.

I guess I can no longer wait for Apple to do something about this issue, I am still using my Macbook pro with the discrete GPU is disabled and only using the integrated gpu for browsing the internet and using it as a file server at the moment.

Now, I am based in Muscat, Oman where Apple store is not available. I would like to know where I can purchase a logic board online.

My machine is Early 2011, 17 inches, 2.2ghz
