Q: 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory) running OS 10.8.2.  It has two graphics components: an AMD Radeon HD 6750M and a built-in Intel HD Graphics 3000. Since I've had the computer, the screen would get a blue tint when the computer switched between them.

However, as of two days ago, the problem has become substantially more severe.  The computer was working fine, when all of a suddent the screen when completely blue.  I had to force restart the computer.  Since then, the screen has gone awry on numerous occassions - each time necessitating a hard reset.

I installed gfxCardStatus, and have discovered that the computer runs fine using the integrated card, but as soon as I switch to the discrete card - the screen goes .

I am just wondering what my options are (any input on any of these would be appreciated!):

1) Replace the logic board.  Would this necessarily fix the issue?

2) Is there any way to "fix" the graphics card?

3) Keep using gfxCardStatus and only use the integrated graphics card.  This is definitely the easiest/cheapest option, but to have such a computer and not be able to use the graphics card seems like a real shame.

4) Is there any other alternative?

funny how yesterday night I was telling you how weird but pleasant it was to see that kid was not being around lately.

look at that, 2 pages of useless posts and plenty annoying phone notifications for nothing...

thankfully people here are not as stupid as he thinks.

    I wasn't asking you.

It is kayazuki who looks like he is the promoter.

Neither, this is a volunteer site

I am reporting the death of my Macbook Pro (late 2011) with AMD HD6750M graphic card. I bought it July 2012, so it crashed after only 2 years and 4 months (normal/careful use). Went from grey screen to blue stripes to grey and now deceased. So utterly disappointed that Apple (Store Haarlem, NED) still does not take responsibility for gpu problem! Lost tons of time and not at all keen to loose an additional Euro 520 on repairing the machine at own cost. This Macbook pro does not qualify as a decent product. Or does it?

    What to do now?

Fact: No, I don't. I just really dislike injustice and I like helping people, so when I can, I do.

He's really good in what he does and on top of that charges a very fair and relatively affordable price for those result vs the time + equipment he puts in it.

Yes, that's business, I see no problem in that, nor a reason to stress that out. It would be unfair to have him fix everything for free i think.

Nope, kayazuki, or anyone else, doesn't get any financial compensation from me.

He was probably pleased I got his macbook working again.

That might be the differnce between me and you Csound1,

The fact is I allready really helped out some people with this problem.

just using same technic you love to use so you realize how stupid it is, and I succeeded.

you're just volunteering on ******* people off pretending helping (are you still?) and minimize other's willing to help.

D3us can fix these computers, that doesn't make his expertise less valuable than if he didn't, you won't ever make your point with that but I'm sure you will try endlessly.

and then you talk about kindergarten...

Yea you're right, I didn't read all the lines of the terms as I didn't want to spend that time reading all those lines while in desperate search for a solution.

    So that's bad of me.

But since I do think actual help is more important then the rules of Apple, I suggest that all well willing people that are simply seeking a decent solution without all this trouble take this discussion elsewhere.
