Q: 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory) running OS 10.8.2.  It has two graphics components: an AMD Radeon HD 6750M and a built-in Intel HD Graphics 3000. Since I've had the computer, the screen would get a blue tint when the computer switched between them.

However, as of two days ago, the problem has become substantially more severe.  The computer was working fine, when all of a suddent the screen when completely blue.  I had to force restart the computer.  Since then, the screen has gone awry on numerous occassions - each time necessitating a hard reset.

I installed gfxCardStatus, and have discovered that the computer runs fine using the integrated card, but as soon as I switch to the discrete card - the screen goes .

I am just wondering what my options are (any input on any of these would be appreciated!):

1) Replace the logic board.  Would this necessarily fix the issue?

2) Is there any way to "fix" the graphics card?

3) Keep using gfxCardStatus and only use the integrated graphics card.  This is definitely the easiest/cheapest option, but to have such a computer and not be able to use the graphics card seems like a real shame.

4) Is there any other alternative?

From reading your imaginative but untrue posts, most now sadly removed, but the internet is forever.

How was I this time, profane?

(I'll take it that your offer of lunch was just another one of your fakes, so forgive me if I don't wait)

there's no need to provide links for posts you made a few hours ago, if you still feel the need, give up forums and find a real help in the real world.

I agree with you, obviously and sadly nothing new here indeed, you're still full of it and love to talk about it endlessly.

but you, on the other hand, could provide the links where D3us is actually advertising his so-you-call-it business in this thread.

Thanks for clarifying* Your abatement of sound logic concerning this thread and allowing us all insight into your working mind. If you want to prove your point then please explain any untruths' I have submitted to this thread concerning my 2011GPU experience.

*Your understanding of the English language is quite poor as you interpreted My offer to take you to lunch (in Person) as an offer to send You Take Away in Zurich Switzerland.

fyi. My offer to take You to lunch in person still stands.

…and Apple Support Communities thread 4766577 erupts into applause, but there is no standing ovation, nor calls for "encore", just breathing of one big sigh of relief.

May I advertise services that compete with your services on your website?

    Not anymore.

If you would have been a nicer person, could've thought about it.

    But you blew it.

Hello, to make a long story short I called Apple customer service after getting nowhere except deflected from Apple retail store and CS agreed to send it free to depot which came back a week later with a new logicboard exhibiting graphic issues so CS had me take it to an Apple Store who replaced it again which also exhibited graphic anomalies later that night when I got home so when I took it back and showed them the issues they agreed to replace the logicboard again for a third and final time. When I went to pick it up a few days later and got home the machine instantly began acting up on the first boot so I checked the repair receipt and it was the same work order # that was given to me from the first logicboard replacement from depot except the store changed the receipt date. i contacted CS to inform them of the improprieties and a new 2014 retina was offered to me.

Not a fun nor interesting process, ironically your Monty Python reference was extremely close to my experience in store with Apple.

I don't mind your advertising Apple, but I do mind you twisting the truth and reporting whoever doesn't agree with you, to have their postings removed.

Once more I will ask you to supply or link to one of these posts twisting the truth. If your example is real you will be able to quote it, or link to it. If as I suspect you are making it up then you won't be able to.

Another victim of the bad 2011 GPU series. My MBP late 2011 has just been converted into a piece of junk. I revert to my Windows laptop, until Apple decides to deal with it. Repairing is not an option, because the laptop (in good shape) isn't worth it and I will have the same problem in a few years again (probably). Selling it now, is also not an option because it doesn't work and I don't want to leave other's with my piece of crap.

I hope Apple takes responsibility... I have paid premium money for a premium product. Now it's time to return the favor and put your mouth where your money is...
