Im on the 2nd logic board replacement. and i only have 50 days left for my warranty (now 90 but just for the logic board component) it would be really sucky since its 90 days and if it happens at 100 days im SCrewed but i guess not as screwed as most people that didnt have apple warranty.
Heres a Big list of users showing same issues.
Corrupt screen, flickering grid patches of colors.
screen freezes - not just app. on startup screen goes blank. computer won't wake from sleep - screen stays black, but fans are running hot.
Got the computer June 2012 MAC OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b) Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB Serial Number C02GD0AEDRJH Some pages in Safari would not open, or would not respond when I tried to open links on them. Apple email would not accept my log in info and kept asking for it, then when I would cancel it it would reload and continue running for a day or so, then it would start over again. June 30th. Exterior monitor quit working right. It got really blurry, jittery and the right and left sides changed place. Using the cursor on it had no effect. I disconnected and unplugged the monitor from the laptop and restarted my laptop and it worked fine for a couple days. July 3rd.. then the laptop screen did the same thing and it froze. Had to use a hard shut down. When I tried to reboot, it wouldn't start up, just a gray screen with vertical purple lines, so I did a hard shut down and restarted using option key. Then went to utilities and all my permissions were messed up. Repaired them and it ran fine for a few hours, then it froze again. I tried to reboot but it did same thing so I again used the option key. Repaired permissions that were out of whack. Every time I use preview very much, it does this. Rebooted Friday the 4th in the evening and it started up fine, although it took longer than usual. Put it to sleep after a couple hours. Woke it up on the 5th and so far it's fine but haven't been doing any graphics. Just text and safari, mostly looking for answers on Apple support discussions. Looked at logs and seems Flash player was responsible for one crash. In all this time, no warnings, alerts or messages have displayed. Installed update to software after this happened to see if it would help. It didn't. Now running 10.7.5 Lion uninstalled flash player 10.6
Freezes, reboots, vertical bars displayed. Recurrent failed reboots.
Slow at loading graphics intensive software such as Logic and Lightroom (being a Macbook Pro, I thought it would be able run this smoothly)
Red lines on screen Power cycling at Apple logo approx 10-15 times before booting into OS Blue/ black screen Distorted images
When switched to discreet graphics card, occasional graphics corruption fixed with reboot. Then, by late September, frequent failed boots and graphics corruption. Now it doesn't boot at all. This has persisted through OS re-installed, older versions of OS X, and Windows.
Split video, no video white screen, rebooting by itself, lines through screen, flickering screen then blank. Have to boot in Safe Mode to copy important data. Can now only operate matching in safe mode.
In the beginning I wasn't experiencing many issues and was not aware that the graphics card was not function properly. Later on, after things got worse, I realized what I was seeing on my screen (odd colorful grid like display) was because of the AMD graphics card failing. Things just got worse and worse with time, the screen started splitting in half, shifting to one side. At this point, I rely on luck when turning my MacBook Pro on, at many times it just freezes, and right now I cannot use programs such as Photoshop and FinalCut or even connect my laptop to an external display.
Screen Flickering, Ghosting, Patches and discoloration.
Random colors, irritations, and ultimately a black screen.
Glitches, boot problems, distorted screen
When it was plugged in and switched to the nVida card it would look like a checker board across the monitors
gpu failure
Freezing when switching between GPUs. Refusing to boot.
the usual blue stripes and others, now doesn't boot anymore
Boots to Grey or Blue Screen and hangs. Only AHT (Alt+D), Single User mode (Shift+S) with fsck and Bootcamp (Alt) are available options that does not boot to Grey or Blue Screen. Bootcamp to Win 7 in safe mode works so I could rescue files from both partitions! Everything else is unresponsive.
System won't boot, Pink apple logo at startup, interference pattern and static on the screen.
Frozen screen, Blurry lines, sudden reboot
started with sudden crashes in google Chrome. I thought it was because of a bug in chrome, but later discovered that Chrome was just graphically more intensive than Safari. Than it started to happen with all kinds of graphic tasks. Than it sometimes did not boot. After switching to a the integrated card using a utility, crashes stopped.
split screen, penlines
Display had stripes in it, switched sides, wont boot up.
Horizantal lines initially. Would usually restart OK for a while. However after a week or two it doesn't work at all. Now it just goes to a white screen.
I started having graphic issues with the MacBook Pro's display freezing. The only way to have it work again was to reboot it. I decided to re-install it, thinking it was a MacOS issue. But I couldn't. Everytime I restart it, the screen goes black or keeps gray after the Apple logo disappears at startup
can I speak Chinese? 简单的说,就是屏幕花了。 系统锁死。
red lines split screen black and white lines repeated crashes impossible to restart
System Freeze, Stripes on the screen, Glitches
split screen not able to boot - grey screen
Overheating when doing graphics intensive tasks and random reboots. Sometimes it'll overheat just from a heavy workload.
Screen either goes completely black, or goes to vertical blue/black lines across whole screen. Also screen shifts left about 6 inches and gets vertical lines as well.
System inaccessible / startup hangs on gray screen after Apple logo.
Checkerboard pattern when using discrete GPU, unability to boot
Same as many others
After I upgraded my OS to yosemite, i could use my mac for a day only, then Screen started to play up. 2 more days now I cant even turn on
My system booted to a grey/white screen and was unusable. I paid to have the logic board replaced and now it's doing the same thing.
I bought a 2011 Macbbok pro & love it. However, yesterday my Mac decided not to boot properly & go to a blank white screen. It would not boot to recovery or safe mode only single user mode. From researching on the internet, I can now get it to boot into Safe Mode if I move all of the ATI extensions out of System/Library/Extensions when in single user mode & then reboot into safe mode.
The very first thing that happened was the display split in half--what should have been on the left moved over to the right. Then I started getting lots of vertical lines intermittently, usually when doing graphics-intensive tasks, such as using Adobe Photoshop or Fireworks. At first, the issue would go away after Sleep, then I would have to reboot, then I could no longer do anything without triggering the display problems, then ultimately I couldn't get to the Login screen after rebooting.
Vertical Blue lines when booting up. Dual Boot with Windows 7. Can select operating system with alt/option key. Windows and Mavericks and recovery partitionall boot up with vertical blue lines. Does not book into desktop just hangs and processors heat up. Managed to switch off cards by removing graphics drivers via cms+s. Books into mavericks but not wondows (haven't looked too deep at windows yet may be able to disable cards there too). Running now on pure software or intel 3000 card not completely sure. Very choppy system with majaor graphical glitches. Pain in the arse.
Got a blue screen after starting
I was photo editing screen error when I started getting the AMD 6750. Afterwards, did not improve.!.
Can't boot. Stuck on white screen. Tried to boot in Recovery - stuck on black screen. Tried to boot in Safe mode - stuck on white screen.
The screen freezes on a blue/grey screen when browsing the internet, and the only way to get out of it is a restart - but it comes back occasionally. The macbook has been repaired (or supposed to be) at a Humac store, but the problem could not be identified according to the repair report.
Initially the screen would be split with the left side on the right and right on the left. Then the computer started locking up and would eventually reboot only to a gray screen, even with various boot options attempted (e.g., Safe Boot). Now, with video-card extensions disabled, rendering is very slow with horizontal black lines rolling from bottom to top while the screen refreshes.
when the system needs to switch to AMD GPU simply freezes or after few seconds the screen split and lot of glitches appears. The computer restarts and need several reboots to come back.
Split display on external display via displayport to hdmi. The day after computer locked up with black screens and and distorted display of various kinds. Does not boot properly. Cmd-s works. But the hardware passes the apple hardware test.
Black screen
Blue and grey stripes and freezing.
I was using the computer normally, simply browsing internet, and without any reason the screen turned blue with a lot of black lines. I waited a bit, but after some mins I restarted the computer. That was the last time I could use my 1800€ macbook pro. Since then It never started again. It still load the apple logo but rest in a light grey screen permanently.
The macbook pro doesn't turns on and show a blue screen with vertical black lines.
My macbook just began to overheat one day as i heard the fan pushing itself to cool the system. Then after cooling it seemed lines appeared on my screen, afterwards the display split the image into two separate images. From then on nothing was possible to be used on the system without having the macbook crash on me and be unusable. The worst part was it happened during the time where I was beginning midterms so I needed to find a replacement quickly
Overheating and shutdown in windows via bootcamp shutdown in mac os during graphic stress test, not bootable after that, also games and videos can cause shutdown switching off discrete graphics via gfx tool helps temporarily till won't boot after sleep
split screen, green screen, pink bars, blue screen at startup
Freezing graphic issues and computer failure
I woke the comuter from a sleep state and the screen first turned red, then disappeared, then it has been flashing blue and red lines.
Horizontal lines and errors in boot.
Had issues with display, and heat issues that have caused the plastic to warp.
I've had the logic board replaced twice about 6 months apart. Once at an Apple Authorized Service Provider and once at the Apple Store. Both times the screen became pixelated and distorted making it impossible to use.
Complete freeze. Won't boot up. Blue screen with black lines
machine locks up due to overheating GPU
Very regular (automatic) rebooting of the MacBook Pro while I'm using it. It is however never able on first try to actually launch again. Usually I get to my login screen which has a light striped blue hue over it. When I log in i get the startup screen you usually see after doing an update. Halfway through startup the MacBook reboots itself again or just dies. This happens between 5 and 15 times before I am able to actually start up the MacBook again. Sometimes the rebooting happens every 10 minutes of using my MacBook, sometimes I can go for hours or days without issues. I see the exact same thing in the graphics/display issues; sometimes it's constant, sometimes it's not happening at all. The issues i have are the following: • Distorted or scrambled graphics on the screen; • Shifting of the image on the screen; • Stripes across the screen; or • Blue or grey screen on startup.
graphic glitch over startup screen Freezing when using Discrete card screen is split (the left side of the screen is on the right)
GPU FAILURE
Blacnk grey or bluw screen on bootup. I dont do any graphics intensive work on my machine but it crashed when watching a movie and cannot get to my desktop now.
At first I had issues with the sleep/awake function, about a year later the graphic card started to mess up. I was watching an online tv show when it first occured, it just froze. I shot down my computer, allowed it to cool and then opened the computer again and it just froze while i was working on an image in photoshop, just plain curves image. The third time the screen just went black and the bacground itunes went on a loop, in each case all I could do was to force the computer to shut down as even the mouse was not working.
Attempted to run a program using the discrete GPU and the screen blacked out, returning with a chaos of pixels and colours. After forcing the computer to shut down, it no longer boots past the Apple screen. The screen turns grey / white, the fans kick in (and the bottom of the computer gets VERY hot), and after a few seconds the computer shuts itself off.
When running some processor/GPU intensive task (fans spinning fast) the screen randomly goes black. Only power cycling the device resolve the problem. Once an earth sign appeared after restarting the computer.
gets very hot, the screen locks in different colors, the image freezes and splits the screen into two, it is difficult to hold on for more than 2 hours
Intermittent vertical striping during normal (non gaming/video) use, frequent crashes with distorted graphics, occasional failure to boot with gray screen.
- Vertical lines of "ruined" pixels - Sudden freeze - Freeze on startup
It was in sleep mode then when open it,i don't see anything on the screen but the keyboards backlight are on.. then i tried hard reset and when it turned on.. VIOLA! its already pixelated.. i tried resetting PRAM, still the same..
Freeze, Split screen, grey screen, sometimes doesn't start
On a random basis, the screen is becoming blue or with tips of blue. Most of the time, it happens after the fans have started to run fast. It is sometimes difficult to restart the computer and I have to start it in Disk Repair Mode and to run the Disk Repair App to get it back with its full potential.
Blue Screen suddenly appeared and when I went to Apple Store they said the Graphics Card was broken and quoted for AUD$645 to repair it.
Crashes and then takes many times to boot
System froze and screen distorted: jagged lines, ragged scan lines, and the screen would split the view and shift it to the right. Finally it wouldn't boot past white screen.
blue screen
Intial stages (in the first two years) a bright blue screen would appear at times when I closed any application which was using discrete graphics. I did not think much of it. Then one day it refused to boot, showed the Apple logo screen with gray lines across. Paid for and replaced the motherboard (I was not aware it was a widespread problem then). It happened again. Then I came across the thread. Got it replaced under the 90 day warranty. Issues with the display (unrelated) which they replaced after contacting the senior adviser. While doing so they also replaced the logic board yet again. So this is logic board #4
Same thing as everyone...grey screen, distorted lines, won't boot after being connected to external screen. Black screen of death.
The same issues related at http://www.macrumors.com/2014/08/21/lawsuit-2011-macbook-pro-graphics/
Grey screen, bleu screens, screen disturbed
freezing, graphics lines/blurring
does not start up beyond the apple logo which has lines running horizontally through it. After spinning for a while the screen goes grey/blue and does not go to log in
Distorted screen with lines; failure to boot into login screen ever after a restart.
My MBP suddenly "blanks" into horizontal lines, restarts or fall in striped white/grey or blue screens.
The mac in general has been heating up quite a bit. I installed smcFanControl to help, but with nothing open / running it would rest at 95 degrees F. I opened it up, blew out the dust, replaced the thermal paste, and installed an SSD. Even with a clean install of the OS on the SSD (Samsung 840 Evo; serial number S1DDNWAF901042L) it would run too hot to want to touch, so I installed smcFanControl. It was in the mid 90s again with NOTHING installed it on the new SSD. If I opened safari, it would increase 10+ degrees. If I navigated to a webpage, it increases another 10+ degrees. I installed gfxCardStatus and turned it to "integrated status" only. It instantly dropped in temperature (20+ degrees). I now have smcFanControl running at a constant 3500 rpm, and the computer is resting around 110 degrees F (with safari and several tabs open).
blue screen takes a lot to reboot speed up fans gray screen distorted image unexpected freeze
Blue screen with stripes. Graphics Caos Can't remeber exat date for start.
The graphics aspect of the issues started mid Sept 2014, but I'm certain they are related to symptoms I've been experiencing since early 2014. Around Feb or March 2014 I began having problems with the fans running full speed even when the computer was cool. It began having trouble waking from sleep (freezing, or kernel panic) like maybe 5% of the time. I run my MBP with an external monitor all the time. Connected via thunderbolt to DVI converter, with the MBP open to extend the desktop. In Sept 2014 I began noticing the graphic glitches. Small blue or magenta squares would appear in a pattern in relatively small areas of the one or both screens. They usually appear around the right side of either screen but I've noticed them all over, and on a few occasions they have covered both screens very numerous. Along with the appearance of the graphics glitches, I've begun experiencing more frequent crashes upon waking from sleep. Greater than 50% of the time. This is mid october 2014 now and I've been avoiding leaving the machine to go to sleep and shutting it down more frequently. I'm concerned that it is on a decline now and it's only a matter of time before the machine becomes unusable. Hopefully much later than sooner, but for now I'm treating it very delicately and avoiding graphics tasks and programs that I would otherwise be comfortable with. In early 2013 my battery failed. At that time I took it to the genius bar and was very disappointed in their service. The guy I spoke with was condescending, didn't tell me anything I wasn't already aware of and said they would call me in a few days to schedule a time for me to bring it in and leave it for a day for the battery replacement. I begrudgingly agreed but they never called. After about 2 weeks I ordered a battery through ebay and replaced it myself in about 10 minutes for half the cost. I don't have any faith in the genius bar, if I need help with an apple product I'm going to find it elsewhere.
I. I bought my machine in Apple reseller in Paraguay to make an investment with no risk on 17 June 2011 in 2013 I made the service where no problems were reported in April and overheats and the screen goes blue and gray now . 1500 budget dollars to change motherboard. the price of the computer was over $ 2500
Blue screen
Stripes on screen, and then didn't work
computer when to a dark grey screen with vertical lines, now apple logo is pixelates (horizontal lines) and computer gets stuk at grey screen
Horizontal lines at start up. 2 Times Logic Bord got replaced 2 times
Crashes when switching between integrated and discreet graphics, failure to shut down properly, pink & blue lines down screen, heavy graphical corruption followed by crashes, failure to boot after crashes without resetting P-RAM.
Count me in as another frustrated and betrayed Apple Fan. I'm from India and my Macbook has gone through all the stages of this screen blackout and ultimately resulting into a dead paperweight now. I would like to share this info which I have been observing after many posts: 1. The problem starts with distorted graphics in the midst of our work. 2. On restarting, [at times] the Apple Logo appears in a tint of blue. Its fine till here. Mac starts and performs for a while. Again distorts and needs a force reset. 3. Guessing its a software issue, we update our OS Software, if we havent done it earlier. 4. While we're carrying on with this, we get to know about "GFXcardstatus". We install and use our Macs for as long as we can. 5. However, even after using gfxcardstatus to force using Integrated Graphics, Macs refuse to work properly and start freezing. 6. Then, we use PRAM and NVRAM, SMC resets, which give a breather to the Macs for a while, but only for a while. 7. Later we resort to using "SAFE BOOT" mode to turn on our machines. STEPS 6 and 7 are not necessarily used in the same order. The Mac's screen however starts with a blue tint and on several occasions, it needs 2-3 hard resets to start. 8. Then comes a point when, the Mac refuses to even Boot. This is what has had happened in my case and a couple of other people, which I have observed. I MAY OR MAY NOT BE RIGHT IN MY OBSERVATION, but this is what I have seen largely.
suddenly displayed turned blue. Issues reappear over and over again.
freeze / no boot when discrete graphics enabled
vertical lines blue; horizontal lines; some screens "separation" ie entire screen shift right and some of the rest appearing on the other side left. now does not even start up properly : get stuck after initial apple+wheel...
Screen would go wobbly and pixilated then go to the blue screen. Restart fixed it in the beginning but now the machine will not start.
screen tearing, discoloration, banding, freezes, crashes, inability to boot up, fans spinning up
Red lines, graphic glitches, overheating, system hard reboots.
won't boot
While running the for this issue typical graphical distortion came up on the mac. After shutting down the mac it is now a random 1/50 startups to get it working for up to 30 minutes.
Distortion, wrong colors, lines
Everytime I use big programs the computer gets frozen and little squares appear. Also when I use the finder and in other miscellaneous applications, the little squares with lines appear. There is problem when reproducing movies or any kind of video, it gets frozen.
Blue and black horizontal lines at boot up. Am able to bypass the GPU with degraded performance by removing the AMD/ATI drivers from the Extensions folders using single user mode. Cannot switch to the integrated card, and cannot access high performance video modes.
screen getting pixelated, wrapping, and freezing. Must do a hard start up and more than half the time, the start up doesn't work either at all, or correctly (Meaning its all pixelated)
It died One day while I was just doing research in the browser. Turned it on, white screen distorted lines, would not boot. It has never booted since. Even single user, diagnostic, safe mode, recovery mode, nothing works. All end up with the machine hanging or a blue screen. Have to force shutdown. One month later it is all still the same. No boot. Useless laptop. Useless apple with no help.
During the boot, horizontal blue line are visible... Then the display is grey and stay like this for 10 minutes with the fans at their max, and then power off automatically...!
Problem began with playback of embedded videos with growing with Safari. Browser would crash. Problem become more frequent and serious when doing video editing with hard crash and blue screen. I have been able to bring it back by doing a safe boot and PRAM zaps. During repeated restarts, I keep getting the blue and pink vertical bars and eventually I am able to get it to boot.
half the login screen corrupts
Lockups, lines across screen, hot, computer won't boot, red lines on apple boot screen
- Blue Screen with Vertical black lines - Glitches / Artifacts - Mostly not starting after Crash - Happening when starting Photoshop or switching to the dedicated GPU
MacBook turned off. Then it didn't boot. Entering the Recovery caused the blue screen with black vertical lines. After this hack with AMD drivers https://people.cam.cornell.edu/~zc227/extras/early2011mbp_graphics.html it eventually booted. But it works slowly and display is somewhat blueish.
Lines, pixelated, jaggy screen booting up and when switching to highres graphics, no screen display and screaming fan.
Grey screen whilst working in Aperture, restart to blue screen, will only boot in safe mode. Eventually restarted in 'normal' mode but unable to use aperture/ final cut/ logic/ dreamweaver as they all cause immediate crashing. Also unchecking the Automatic Graphics Switching (system prefs>energy saver) = crash. Then it's a tedious & time consuming restart x10 (?) to get back a computer which has the capability of an iPad
Screen locks up and computer must must be shut down manually. Images on screen have shattered/disjointed appearance and hundreds of horizontal lines roll through it. This happened at random times throughout the past few weeks. A reboot usually fixed the problem for a brief period. I utilized this hard reboot about 4 or 5 times. Today the hard reboot did not work and the computer remains inoperable - i.e. gray screen.
blu screen in windows seven...gray screen in Yosemite. Technical assistance suggests motherboard replacement. Cost: $ 800,00 (Brazil prices!)
I crash black screen while trying to use the dedicated graphics, along with various other glitches like not being about to boot after a crash
Gray screen with no logo after boot. Can only boot successfully after moving kernel extension for ATI card, and then several reboots are required to get everything running.
many different symptoms: computer freezes at random, display shows fuzzy lines, computer won't boot, computer freezes when switching to discrete graphics card
Blue screen at boot. Useless mac.
MacBook froze when trying to start application, for example aperture. After reboot grey screen, sometimes also a pink screen or a black screen with green stripes. Cannot boot anymore now, all I get is a grey screen.
While connected to my external monitor, I had vertical lines, and some kernel panics. This finally resulted in 3 visits to a genius, and finally a logic board replacement in March of 2013.
Hard Freeze, Pink Screen, Can't use anything that requires the external graphics card. Need to use only integrated
Blue screen System doesn't boot (grey screen) Strips on screen while using graphics Freezing and black screen display Double image split into two
Weird lines, split screen, sudden restart, unreonsivenes, flickering.
Same, well documented graphics artifacts on screen once discrete GPU is enabled, which is all the time with my expensive Thunderbolt display attached. Any intense GPU activity locks up machine in mere minutes.
The problems got worse and worse over a few weeks until it was completely unusable. The screen would turn off and go black, blue, or gray, then there would be red lines. Also a flip screen with the left side of the screen on the right side with lines going across. It would be frozen like that and I'd have to force quit and re-start over and over, 5-10 times in a row to get the computer to even go to the sign in page. It kept going to a gray screen sometimes with red lines. Finally, after progressively getting worse and worse and unable to get the screen to start after 10 attempts I decided to not try anymore so that I don't lose my thousands of photos on the computer that have not been backed up yet (because my external hard drive was full and I was waiting for a new one). I am just praying that my photos are still on there. I have a client waiting for her photos that I cannot access and I don't have the funds to purchase a new computer. I would like a refund since this defect does not seem to be repairable based on the experience of others.
A few months after I bought the laptop, every time I opened the lid the entire display in the morning it was yellow and had red lines going across the screen. The problem usually was fixed after a shutting and re-opening, and sometimes a reboot, but at first it wasn't frequent enough (once a day when i opened the device) to warrant much of a reaction by me. I thought it was because my dorm room was cold.
terrible artifacts that show up after sleeping / closing the lid. Happens about one out of every 4 times i close the lid. Cannot resume my work on the computer, have to hard reset.
Screen glitches, gray and blue screens of death and many more...
Black screen. Not booting.
Horizontal shift, thin blue lines on boot screen. System will not boot (either into boot camp or osx)
Does not boot. Screen is black.
Same as others - shifted screen, crashing, blue screen, gray screen
Macbook gets stuck at grey screen during startup
at the beginning my laptop went off and on by itself , sometimes he showed me a blue screen during some seconds but one day the screen goes off, completely black, I managed to connect the laptop to a second screen and work in that way .... suddenly after some weeks/days the screen came back and worked normally and this situation continued happening during the last year, sometimes it was working for 2 months normally and then goes off, sometimes it came back instantaneously and sometimes it could takes 2 weeks with the screen off. Today it happened again and I had to work with a second screen again, but by first time, suddenly my screen turns on with a glitch and get frozen, I had to force it and shut it down, when I turned it on again, It worked fine... actually I'm writing form my laptop and seems to be OK but I'm pretty sure this will happen at some point again, I've experiencing this situation since 1 year ago ....
Horizontal blue line
Screen Freezing Restart on grey screen Then replaced by vertical blue and black stripes
Blue screen with stripes and most of the time gray screen. Could not boot my machine.
The screen suddenly turned black while I was watching a video and the computer became unresponsive, I had to perform a force shutdown but the computer would get stuck at the gray screen on startup right after the Apple logo appears. I tried all troubleshooting methods suggested on the Apple Support website but none of them worked. I could get to the single-user mode and perform a HDD checkup but "the volume appeared to be OK". I used my HDD to boot a different Mac and it worked perfectly indicating that the issue must be a hardware issue. I changed the RAMs but that didn't help either.
Graphics corruption during use or black screen on wake-from-sleep followed by machine becoming unresponsive. Machine boots to corrupted blue/gray Apple-logo boot screen, followed by gray screen (no logo) and fans running full speed with machine becoming very hot. Machine will stay in this state until hard power-off. 20+ attempts required to boot the machine successfully after an episode. About 2 episodes/week now.
Screen just goes black, computer still running though. Also when booting up screen is just gray, sometimes with a spinning wheel that will eventually just cut to black. Also there are horizontal stripes running across the screen on occasion.
Black, Blue, gray , stripes and Distorted screens. Hangs , freezes or reboots during operation. Fan is making a lot of noise etc.
Patches. Mosaics. Complete crash. 2 hard drive revivals
Like all 6750M Problems, sometimes it cannot boot. When it switches to deticated, the screen goes black.
vertical and horizontal lines. distorted screen and color, freezes, prevents start up
MacBook Pro 2011 17" hard freeze https://discussions.apple.com/message/13150366#13150366 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Gfffraphics Card https://discussions.apple.com/message/21110132#21110132
my mac screen freezes on the grey screen when woken up from sleep.
* MBP would randomly shutdown, whether on battery at 20% or connected to a power supply at 100% charged. * MBP developed vertical bands, both when using GPU-intensive applications (video player) and with normal web browsing * Computer would randomly slow down across all applications * MBP screen would randomly freeze, giving a black screen * MBP would randomly reassemble contents of display * MBP would freeze and display blue screen with black vertical lines * MBP would not start up beyond Apple logo, giving a grey screen * After a random shutdown or power-off when not plugged in to power supply, computer time would reset to 1/1/2001 (or similar time)
It wouldn' t start
stay in grey/blue screen after boot
Spontaneously freezes. Grey screens when using intense GPU power (video rendering) Screen mayhem. Unable to boot after crash. Really hot temperature around 3,4,E,R keys. Fans going max speed.
graphic disruption vertical lines blue screen with lines on startup then no start up at all...
blue or grey or black screen on each boot
Unable to sync iPhone with MBP as iPhoto broke up then froze the screen completely. Restarting several times got the screen back however with time it has progressively gotten worse with the screen breaking up and freezing. As soon as the screen froze the fans went into hyperdrive and the heat built up was substantial necessitating immediate shutdown. Any image or video application crashed the system to a point where it would only boot to a white screen and no further. Apple repair could not diagnose the issue and has now failed completely. They sid that the logic board had failed and this was the problem.
First vertical yellowish screen, later full black, sometimes blue or just displaced screen. Often freeze and complete **** down. Basically useless.
The screen becomes grey and, after one month, it was impossible also to turn on the laptop.
Glitche in the screen, and then crashes. After a few day was totally not working.
Straited screen solvable by rebooting culminating in grey screen of death today Jan 23 2015.
Freezes whenever any graphics-intensive application is used.

Blue or black screen, garbage on the screen, impossible to boot
image distortion, lines in the screen, freeze, forever reboot, gray screen, refusal to boot.
On boot, there are vertical stripes going down the screen. After the Apple logo disappears, the vertical stripes disappear also but don't progress past the grey screen.
Random black screens while working Horizontal distortion
Unexpected black screen, Unexpected display errors (vertical black stripe, shifted display to right), At reboot, hanging at the gray screen where the mouse should but didn't appear.
Split screen, screen shaking, running very slow. Gray screen, blue screen, black screen. Black menu bar. The logic board has been replaced twice in 2 months and is still having the same issues.
I worked on my MBP as usual and suddenly the screen image became distorted. Now every time, when MacBook want to switch from Intel HD3000 to AMD Radeon 6750M (for example: all Adobe programs; all games; just many opened tabs of browsers etc), i getting the blue screen with vertical lines. It still work, but only on the integrated GPU. And there is no way, that i can to work with my external Thunderbolt display: if i plug an external monitor it’s immediately causing crash.
Pink lines at the grey startup screen. Computer freezes.
Same as everyone else, blue screen, screen glitches, freezes. Eventually unable to boot. Computer unusable.l
At first I noticed stripes and odd colours that would take over my screen. Soon the problem because more serious and when I'd restart the computer to fix the graphics issues, the screen would only be grey and then the computer would not boot. Now once booted it will often go to a black screen and become unresponsive for hours.
Green lines, and then grey screen
split screen, garbled display, blue lines, freeze/hang.
the same as everybody
Parts of the desktop got stuck offscreen, the computer boots and displays either blue or red stripes with no user input possible. Other times it just hangs on a grey screen.
Logic board failure from overheating.
black bar on screen
I had a graphics failure problem in 2012. Luckily i was under Apple care, so the service was free. In April 2014, it failed again, and now I have no chance of getting it replaced. If I do, I'll face the same problem again because I've learned that it is a manufacturing defect.
Display would display artifacts then freeze. I fixed it by disabling automatic graphics switching. Now it is freezing on a black/grey screen even with auto switching disabled.
There are a lot of horizontal black line in display.
The screen went grey after recent update, and will no longer allow me to get the login screen. This is just upsetting since I just replaced the harddrive in Feb, and now the screen isn't moving or allowing me to move.
Suddenly experienced some flickering and lines. Restarted and everything went back to normal. Then several hours later, more flickering and screen went haywire. Restarted but couldn't boot past the chime. Used the single-user method to removed the AMD drivers and boot in integrated-only mode.
can't boot and enter a blue screen if I boot in the safe mode. And I change the logic board three times for this problem!
The screen would dim and lock up the system. Then the screen would start pixelating in areas, still locking up the system. I haven't allowed it to completely fail due to what I've read online with other people's experiences.
The display breaks into two part: the left half goes right and the right hals goes left. Then the computer freezes and it takes three attemps to reboot again using, single use mode, recovery mode and reseting the PRAM.
Garbled display blocks, lines through the display image, image shifted to left and wrapped around screen with black bar in center, problems booting up (booting to solid blue or grey screen)
Sometimes the computer halt and when reboot the monitor display a lot of horizontal lines and a init apple with bar below when the advance of the bar is in the middle then the display turns to white and then stops. This may occurs continuously in the next hour and then, after an hour or similar then start up without horizontal lines and works fine.... until... (surprise)
distorted picture
Locks and glitches after loading some apps like Logic Studio or even YouTube video in Safari
Automatic restarting Red lines upon boot up Constant Crashing
Overheating then there are lines on screen and MBP don't work anymore !!!
Graphic Glitches + Freeze Unable to restart Have to wait 30mn so that it cools down and do a PRAM reset After 3 years of use, now the Macbook doesn't start anymore Went to the Apple Store for a Motherboard Replacement
vertical lines with distorted image
It starts the booting process with the display in white with green stripes, then it changes to being all white and it doesn't boot. When I move the AMD drivers to another location, I can boot but then the display is green with stripes and some animations go slower, like the Dock.
