My December 2011 MacBookPro is also affected, Core i7 ATI 6750. Freezes during boot with vertical lines on screen after fresh OS reinstall, machine unusable. Reseller is asking 650€ ($900) for motherboard replacement, too expensive for a 1.5 year machine. That leads to a net loss of $3000. Not something you'd expect from Apple.

I really hope Apple comes up with a world-wide repair plan, as the failure really is on their side.

I have also problem with the color of my display. When I launch certain application blue colors become prevail on the screen. Looks like kind of switching to some blue theme of interface activated. The same bug when I brouse some site which I suppose use graphics more intensively. So to avoid such problems I had to limit myself by using only Mail and Excel.

I have MacBook Pro 15 inch late 2011, Intel core i7 2.2 GHz, AMD Radeon HD 6750M GPU.

    Serial number: C1*******V7L

    UUID: E3D14ABD-37AD-56E3-89F0-0726DF09C749

After partially reading this thread I excpect AMD Radeon HD 6750M die one happy day

Glad to have found the right place to express my frustration.

Late 2011 MBP 15" Intel Core i7 2.2 GHz, AMD Radeon HD 6750M GPU.

I have been having problems with my MBP for a couple of months now. I am still unsure if these problems are related or not, but my MBP is not the same hard-charger it was when I bought it in 2011. It started with random screen hangs that would last for 10-30 seconds. After weeks of running different utility programs, this problem has disappeared. Today, while using Lightroom, my screen flickered, and pink lines appeared across my screen. The display became distorted, and the OS became inoperative. Hard shutdown. Attempted to boot for about 20 mins, got nothing but an Apple logo, pink lines, followed by a white screen. Cleared PRAM, nothing. Command+R gave me a black screen. One hour later, normal boot. I have downloaded gfxCardStatus as advised, and am currently running integrated graphics only.

Looks like I can cancel my Genius appointment for tomorrow. Seems like a waste of time from what I've read. Such a disappointment. This will undoubtedly affect my plans to purchase Apple products in the future.

    MC725LL/A - MacBook Pro 17'' 2.2 Early 2011

The problem begun in last month (or so)

Constant freezes when discrete card activated.

Freezes after restarting (several restarts needs).

If i open any app which is using discrete card MacBook Pro almost instantly freezes (sometimes it can work for a while on discrete GPU).

Firstly screen becomes more blueish (like wrong color calibration), then it can locks or distort screen image.

I can work with gfxCardStatus only (when switching to internal video card) but sometimes when i choose Internal Card (in gfxCardStatus) computer freezes.

I thought it was my only problem but i now i see it's very spread wide.

I had similar problems with NVidia chip on my previous MacBook Pro 15'' Core2Duo 2.2.

Apple changed logic board for free (even when the warranty ends)

Hope, Apple makes right move and changes logic boards in affected MacBooks Pro for free because it's a hardware fault, not user's fault who paid about $2500 for hi-quality product. 2 years for Pro hardware isn't enough.

My PowerBook G4 15'' Titanium 1.67GHz still works. My MacBook Pro 15'' Core2Duo 2.2GHz (after mother board with defected NVidia chip replacement) still works. We all estimated the same quality from Apple hardware when we paid our money.

I can not afford now to pay 1000-1700 USD (the prices here in Russia) for logic board replacement and have the same situation after 6-12 months again.

Very dissapointed with all this stuff. I am big fan of Apple products (more then 10 years) but now i'm not sure what my next laptop will be from Apple, unfortunetelly....

Sounds as if you have the infamous 'blue tint'... a lot of us have had it and it just seems to 'disappear' after about two weeks. It is caused by the discrete GPU but, as I said, just usually goes away after a bit.

Count me in. Early 2011 MBP graphics just died out of the blue. I'm getting grey stripes all over my screen at startup. The computer crashes when the discrete graphics turns on. The display flickers with small white squares and then with blue stripes.

    Out of warranty without AppleCare.

I think you are right. 'Blue tint' - I installed gfxCardStatus and when swith to discrete GPU the color of the screen goes blue (like the theme was changed). So switched to internal GPU. I hope the descrete GPU will not die untill I buy a new MacBook Pro

I'm having the same problem too since this weekend. Now i can't start my MBP because it just get stucked in a grey or blue with black lines screen. Only I can get into single user mode. I hope Apple to have some solution for this, because now i have a useless computer and I can't have my work done.

MBP early 2011 15″ / 2.2Ghz core i7, AMD Radeon HD 6750M here. I have very similar problems to what is described in this thread. It all started rouglhy after 12 months... My macbook's screen occasionaly freezes with screen artifacts on it. Sometimes it happens once a week, sometimes three or more times a day — but most often when an external monitor is connected or when an app that needs gfx acceleration is running. Rebooting always helped so far.

Early 2011 15" Macbook Pro 2.0GHz i7. Had to pay 500€  ($675) for a new Logic Board in July because of this. Pretty bad for a $2000+ laptop!!

I have exactly the same problem on a 17" mbp early 2011. I have brought the computer to Apple Store Opera in Paris. Still waiting for some news but apparently if they change the motherboard, i will have to pay 500 €
