Q: 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory) running OS 10.8.2.  It has two graphics components: an AMD Radeon HD 6750M and a built-in Intel HD Graphics 3000. Since I've had the computer, the screen would get a blue tint when the computer switched between them.

However, as of two days ago, the problem has become substantially more severe.  The computer was working fine, when all of a suddent the screen when completely blue.  I had to force restart the computer.  Since then, the screen has gone awry on numerous occassions - each time necessitating a hard reset.

I installed gfxCardStatus, and have discovered that the computer runs fine using the integrated card, but as soon as I switch to the discrete card - the screen goes .

I am just wondering what my options are (any input on any of these would be appreciated!):

1) Replace the logic board.  Would this necessarily fix the issue?

2) Is there any way to "fix" the graphics card?

3) Keep using gfxCardStatus and only use the integrated graphics card.  This is definitely the easiest/cheapest option, but to have such a computer and not be able to use the graphics card seems like a real shame.

4) Is there any other alternative?

And in return (assuming that your posts do not transgress the terms of use) I will ignore you.

Thank you for your considered opinion.

Do you have a question, or a solution?

People HAVE given "feedback" to Apple, to no avail.

Perhaps they have not yet given enough, but you are discouraging people from doing so. What do you expect will happen?

Pointing out on the reason why some people's posts are being removed is one thing, even a good thing actually, but talking bad and treat people as dummies because they haven't read the TOC is an all different thing, unacceptable.

Anyway, always out of subject when talking about that guy so I will leave it up to here, it's only a way for him to get some kind of revenge on real life in a real environment, pretty easy to act tough behind a screen, right?

#1 plague in forums and comment sections, always was, probably always will.

    Now back to the subject...

Once again let me point out that choosing not to read the TOU does not mean that they do not apply to you.

    and that's the truth.

and once again it is not about the fact that you explain them their post have been removed because it was against the TOU, it is about the way you're doing it.

you don't need to add anything disrespectful but you do each time, probably getting some pleasure out of it which would explain why you do it.

being the TOU speaker, advocate or whatever turns you on, go ahead.

just learn how to behave yourself, that's all people expect from you in this thread.

Odd that you find a simple statement of fact disrespectful.

    What does the truth disrespect?

maybe it's just that natural to you, you don't even notice.

not going to show you ALL examples, I know you love to request links, quotes and stuff but do some work yourself.

so last example only, you, replying to Russy47 :

Your posts are being removed because even though you agreed to the terms of use for the site you have proven not to be capable of keeping your word.

But that's not at all surprising.

can't you just say, "your posts are being removed because you violated the terms of use you agreed on"?

what's with the "not being capable of keeping your word" and especially "But that's not at all surprising"?

this is ridiculous, feel like I'm talking to a 10 years old...

it's not surprising because it is not the first time.

Surprises tend to be a one time event.

And you have not answered my questions, you have not provided any links to support your falsehood despite the request.

What should I make of that?

    violating the TOU, come again...

aren't you unofficially monitoring this thread, reporting violation of the TOU, hoping to get a job from Apple or something?

it is not the first time, what?

that people don't understand why their post been removed?

no it is not, plenty more to come for you to knock yourself out.

don't understand your question, don't care either, nothing to prove to you and this is all taking too much of my time already.

do whatever you want to make of that, you're a lost cause, nobody cares, you just want to grab attention, like a child.

you could help everybody in this thread with you not posting a word in it, I'm sure that you can do.

no points to get your level up, though.

    tough.

ps: grow up when you have a minute.

Also GfxCardStatus seems to be broken under 10.9

I beleive that I found a half-solution, which at least allows to run mac normally with 10.9 system.

If you can boot under a safe mode (holding shift on startup), that possibly means you need to disable quartz.

So, boot under a safe mode.

Go to /System/Libraries/Frameworks/CoreGraphics.framework/Resources/ and edit Configuration.plist. The best way, I suppose, is to open GLCompositorConfiguration->GLCompositorRequiredClasses and change required device values somehow (for example changing "IOPCIDevice" and "IOAGPDevice" to "IOUnknownDevice"). Yea, and because it's a system folder, you may need to change some permissions and it's better to do a backup.

    Reboot normally

It may be a coincidence, but that helped me to run my mac (late 2010 mb pro) under 10.9 after I upgraded it from 10.6 (where GfxCardStatus kinda works).
