Only the last upload of photos are viewable. Photos are on a Lacie external HD as is Aperture. It does list the 407 Projects, 39512 photos but thumbnails of the events are blank. I checked the Photo Filter and all boxes are unchecked.
Any suggestions?

What is your Aperture version?
Photos are on a Lacie external HD as is Aperture.
Do you mean you have a referenced library, and the referenced originals are on your Lacie drive? Or is your library managed and the whole library is on the external?

In what way "blank" - do you see dashed outlines, or are they black?
Are your original image files raw or in another image format?
Do you have a current backup of your Lacie drive?

Alasdair, I'd recommend to make a backup of your Aperture library, just in case.

Do they show an item count of "0"?
Is there a reason that you do not update Aperture to at least 3.2.4? You have missed some important bug fixes this way. This should work with Mac OS X (10.7).
If your projects show an item count of 0, and all search fields are clear, I'd suggest to repair your Aperture library after you checked the backup, if it is working.

Yes, guilty of not backing up! But also concerned regarding the amount HD space it would occupy.

I've tried an Aperture update and it says there aren't any available. Also, in checking my profile, it should have listed my Mac OS X operating system as 10.6.8. I've hestitate in upgrading the operating system because of some problems reported and the possible conflicts with Aperture. Just nervous! : )
So, should I do a "rebuilding the database" in the Aperture startup?

No, the item count is still there in each event.
Then try Frank Caggiano's User Tip, if there is an invisible filter.
If that does not bring the photos back, repair and rebuild, if necessary, but don't rebuild without a backup.

With 10.6.8 you should be able to upgrade to 3.2.4 as well.
How did you buy Aperture? If you bought a boxed version, or downloaded the Trial, then "Software update" from the Apple menu should show an update. Or you can download it from the Apple Support page. Aperture 3.2.4
If you bought from the AppStore, you'll have to update using the AppStore, but in that case I do not know, if it still will be possible.

I did download it as a trial then purchased it. Would the download affect the Aperture library?
I do like Aperture very much, quick easy etc. I hope this works...I'll let you know.

Then you can install the download from the support page that I pointed to.

In some sense, yes. The update from Aperture 3.1 to 3.2 will upgrade the Aperture library to the new version. From 3.1 to 3.2 are only smaller changes, so it is very unlikely that something will go wrong with that. But nevertheless, I would never upgrade software without making a backup, so that it will be possible to revert to the previous version.

The Frank C method didn't work, and the video is blurry. I did buy a new LaCie HD external drive and backed-up the photos. Then I did a database rebuild which did restore the photos. Hallelujah!
I did also look at an upgrade on the Aperture Suport page where you can download , (don't know where the registration number is) and it says that Lion OS X is required which I don't have.
