I can't publish my book because of the problem: ITMS-3000 character content of element "publication_type" invalid; must be equal to "Book", "Textbook", "book" or "textbook" at XPath /package/book/metadata.
Even the Apple tech support hotline has no any idea to resolve it. :-(

iBook, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
I tried to change LANGUAGE to English though the book is in Chinese, and I WAS able to selelct Chinese as LANGUAGE.... and finally it worked.
Edit the metadata of your book in ibooks author, select English as your language.
and this error will not occur.

I have exactly the same issue with a French book, and I did the same : edit the metadata of the book, even remove all the special characters, set the language to English... but I still have the same message ! 😟
The error message still occurs. Did I do something wrong ?

We simply reinstalled iTunes Producer and everything was fine. Never saw the message again.
