when i press eject on the keyboard or in the dvd application, or when i drag the disc to the trash to eject, the computer attempts to eject the dvd, but the disc never appears. the dvd icon disappears from teh desktop. how do i remove my disc?

First, open Terminal and type:
drutil eject
If it doesn't work, press the trackpad or mouse while your Mac is starting to force the disc to eject. If nothing works, take the computer to an Apple Store

thanks. i could hear it trying, but the disk never appeared. so, i guess it isn't the eject mechanism that is malfunctioning. thank you, though. i definitely learned something new.
