Trying to erase and format a new hard drive in Disk Utilities and during formatting the progress bar is getting hung at the 50% point. It's been like that for a half hour now and I'm not sure what to do. I've erased and reformatted many HDs in the past and this has never happened before. Is it just a bad disk?
Any thoughts? Thanks.
Could be - any disk I format finishes in a flash. I'd quit DU (Force Quit if you must) and try again.

All disks I've formatted have finished in a flash as well except in this case. It's now the the day after my original post and was still at 50% complete when I checked it this morning. I'm going to try a secure erase and then see if it will format after that.
