HT204411: What can I buy from the iTunes Store in my country?

Learn about What can I buy from the iTunes Store in my country?

Q: Why does Apple restrict apps by google and some others for specific country? I cannot download Google map apps and also other apps like scanning etc. This is compelling me to have more than one apple ID - I need to have and apple ID of US or UK to accesss

Almost all users of iPad or iPhone use google map app and also other apps like scan and games etc. the iStore restricts apps to countries!!!! I fail to understand this? I do travel a lot and need such apps. This is forcing me to have two Apple accounts one for my home country and one account for US or UK!!!

Apple are not restricting what you can buy/download from your country, it is the app developers (and in some cases a country's laws) that control what you can buy where - if Apple haven't been granted a license to have an app in a particular country then they can't have it there. Have you tried contacting google to ask them why their maps app isn't available there ?

like many app developers, I do contribute, and do not know of any country restrictions lists that is attached to every app that developers upload, makes no sense!

The local law is just an excuse as Google maps and Google Earth is available here in this country on android and other devices.

I am just trying to draw attention of Apple that they are loosing out in the market to android devices as these devices do not have restrictions!

Google allows android users to have their apps here in this country and I am using it with Smasung Note II. So I guess this is Apple vs Google that is yet to play out -

Is Google helping market Samsung devices ?? Like I said before I had to dump my iPhone for a Samsung!!  and now looking for a good android tablet so I could put my iPad on ebay too. Thanks Apple!!

All content, including apps, is licensed to Apple on a country-by-country basis. Google have allowed their maps app to be available to Apple to have in a number of country's store - if it's not available in your country then you need to ask google why not, if it's not due to a country's laws, then it's google's restrictions that aren't allowing Apple to have it there

Google does allow its apps to be freely be available in this country - its only in Apple devices that they are restricted - so it cannot be Google but Apple

I just started to use Samsung which has Google Apps and stopped use of  iPhone or iPad

Its Apple devices that are less capable without these apps and if Apple is not interested in asking Google on their users behalf, so as a user I would go use a device that has Google maps and other apps on it, that Apple restricts and dump their iPhone and iPad.

So you feel Apple should have the exact same contract with Google as Samsung does.

I should think so, as Google is smart and allows Samsung and other android using devices, to run their app but not Apple devices - so Apple is the underdog here.

Besides Google apps were  available for free before their recent fight when Apple stopped all Google content and then re-started these apps only for some countries!!!

But why would Google want to help Apple with content, after all their Android operating system is a direct competitor for Apple. If I were the CEO of Google I would do everything in my power to be better than my competitor. If that meant not sharing content, so be it.

Google control where their apps are available, not Apple. They are available in the countries where they've granted Apple license to have them available -  they are not available for Apple devices where google are restricting it by not granting Apple a license.

That is exactly the point. So I guess Apple needs to do something about it?

Before Apple took Google to court  - Apple devices were using Google apps in this country too - but suddnely Apple stopped these apps on iPhone and iPad.

Now after the lawsuit - it is Apple that should try to restore the situation that existed before the Court battle. Otherwise it is Apple that is still losing out not  Google

And because Apple request something from Google, they are obliged to agree? I think you are living in a dream world. Google and Apple are not friends, they are not going to play nice with each other.

I agree there. But I should think that it was apple that first stopped using Google apps on their devices as it took Google to court - Now that the lawsuit is over it had to re-negotiate with Google for using its Apps and Google dictated their terms to Apple.

I only thought that Apple would have some 'clout' left and would try to at least restore the 'status quo ante'

Anyway I guess Apple does not service me here in this country as well as Google does!!!

Then your choice is quite clear. Use a device that meets your needs. If that is a device that has Google Maps, so be it.
