I can't hide iBooks and I have followed the directions

iPad 2, iOS 6.1

You can't currently do it on iOS 6 - from the bottom of the iOS section on that page :
You currently cannot hide purchases on devices using iOS 6.

You should still be able to hide items on your computer's iTunes

I don't know. It hasn't been possible since iOS 6 came out last September (I think that was when it came out), and IOS 6.1 last week hasn't changed it. If/when it might be possible to hide items again I don't know

No, downgrading the iOS version is not supported by Apple
