my ipad on start up is asking to be connected to iTunes. Any throughts and how to correct this?

Can anyone help me re-start my ipad. Its come up as conect to itunes anthen when connect does nothing and throught what I can do.

iPad 2, iOS 5.1, New ipad working fine for 3 weeks
