Aperture is Frozen

I just opened Aperture (v3) and clicked on my book project. When I went to highlight some text, it completely froze up and has given me the beachball ever since. I suppose I should I should have checked to see if there were any software updates before opening, as it has been a few weeks. But-- here we are.

I really want to avoid a force quit at all costs-- but there doesn't seem to be anything I can do. Any ideas?

If I do have to force quit, what steps to I need to do when I restart Aperture?

This is a major project of mine that I've been working on for a while... please help!

Thanks!!

Have a look at my User Tip: If Aperture is unresponsive, how to avoid force quitting?

If the terminal command does not work, repair your Aperture Library after Force-quitting, if necesary, rebuild.

Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual

When you start Aperture the next time, hold down the Shift key to defer the generation of previews. If that succeeds, report back.

Do you have a working backup of your library? If not, back up before rebuilding.
