Thank you, and let me follow up. I am assuming the HDCP is a function of weather or not the TV supports that on DVI imput. If it does not, the apple TV basically sends an interference signal that affects the picture? Or something of this nature. Am I close on this or misunderstanding the whole thing. The affect of this is to render a perfectly good TV uworkable with Apple TV.

Thanks very much for your reply

I have since found out that my Samsung model with DVI is in fact HDCP compliant according to Samsung web site. If that is the case does anyone have any experience setting up Apple TV 3rd/latest model) to a DVI using an adaptor cable. I run my audio to a home thearter reciever with Digital/optical/coaxial. Will video go through and the audio work on a reciever?

I don't believe these differences have been caused by HDCP. There are some users who have been unable to use the Apple TV to play audio to a receiver when the TV is switched off, this suggests to me that there is some form of communication required between the Apple TV and the TV before the Apple TV will work.

You may well find it works fine, I'm only passing on that not every user has succeeded with DVI.

As a followup I got the apple tv, I am using the HDMI cable to DVI adaptor and running audio to home theater via digital optical, it plays fine. Of course you need to see the menu to select the music so the TV is on but you can turn the monitor off and the music plays fine. For info I have a Samsung HLN437WX with DVI in HDCP compliant. and so far I really like the apple TV, it was quite easy to set up and everything I have tried works fine. Have not run through all it can do but so far it is doing what I wanted it to do anyway. Saved me buying a new TV for awhile anyway.

Thank you Prime Minister Churchill, hands accross the water.
