Hi,

I have a 2008 3.2 GHz Mac Pro. I had originally upgraded the graphics card to the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB card, which now is no good. I need a new card but am wanting to sell the Mac Pro (10.5.8) and would like some opinions as to what very reasonallably priced card I can put in. Most of the discussions about video cards are about upgrading, but since I'm looking to sell, I just want it to work.

Any advice ?

New cards will require upgrading the OS. I believe your two best options are another GeForce 8800 or an AMD Radeon GT120. Both are available from used/refurb merchants - eg Amazon.

You should check out OWC.com.  If that doesn't work, then do a word search for "Other World Computing."  They specialize in Mac Products and are way cheaper than buying directly from Apple.  They offer line of high end and high quality products specifically geard for Apple/Mac machines of all types.  I get my RAM chips from there because it's cheaper and really good stuff...

Unfortunately, OWC only seems to carry the "newest" (ha ha) 5770 and 5780, and a bunch of REALLY old AGP cards for PowerMac G4s. I guess it's worth calling them to see if they have the older Mac Pro cards in stock.

Call the Apple online store and order the 10.6 "Full Retail" DVD, under US$30.
