No they are not. Unless you buy the lowest cost unit and only do rudimentary computing on it. Web browse, Email and word processing.

Will it last 5 years. Maybe, Maybe not. No one knows not even Apple. They hope it doesn't so you will buy a new one in less then 5 years. That is why they only offer a 2 year extension to the standard one year warranty. If the system was built to last 5 years + they would sell a 4 year extension.

Over time, Macs are the most inexpensive computers to purchase, by far.


None of the Macs I have ever purchased since 1985 ever failed. I still use an eleven year old PowerBook on occasion, though these days it is generally to help others with theirs. It spent most of its life being abused by airport security in weekly business travel. It's on its third battery.


Consider the number of people here asking questions regarding Macs that are still running Tiger or PowerPC programs that have not been written for at least seven years.


Most people prefer to spend $500 every year and a half for a piece of junk Windows PC than twice as much for a Mac that will easily last at three or four times as long. Apparently they didn't do well in math.
