I connected my Ipod to my imac. I was asked if I wanted to update it. I clicked yes, and a while later my computer said my ipod was in recovery mode and the only option is to restore. I don't want to restore it. What should I do?

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...

Why would APPLE ask to install a software update that then wipes the entire device? Has APPLE gone completely stupid? Sooooo FRUSTRATING!
