Already owned iTunes gift?
If I give an album as a gift on itunes and the recipient already owns the album, can they get credit instead?

This is not helpful. I, as the gifter, contact customer service to get an answer to my question? The recipient does? Is it obvious to the recipient that they have the option to do so if they already own the gift?
My question remains unanswered. Other responses welcome.

Short Answer: No.
Long Answer: The only way to have the possibility of getting refunded and have Apple make an exception to the policy is to contact Apple's iTunes Support department, as linked by AnaMusic.
My question isn't whether I can receive a refund. Can the recipient of the gift choose another album or receive credit if they already own the gifted album?
No.
No. Your recipient can't get credit or another item instead of your gift. Gifts are fixed and what you chose will be what your recipient gets.
