Question

New modem/router - set up time capsule?

I have just purchased a new Belkin N300 modem router. So far iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad, 3 iPods, Android phones and wireless Canon printer have all joined the newtork and are working not problem, but not Time Capsule. I can even see it in AirPort Utility. Light is flashing Amber as would be expected when it's not able to connect to network, but I can't seem to find any reason why....

Any help/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🙂

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

You will have to configure it to Join an Existing Network which puts it into bridge mode. That is the only way it will connect to your Belkin router. This would be done in Airport Utility. You will need to provide the name of the network the router creates and the network password.

I'm not really sure. Why are you using the two routers in the first place since life is much easier with just one router.

I wasn't able to find just a modem, these days they all seem to be modem/router combos. Yes I agree that would have made life simpler...

I just can't figure out why I can't see Time Capsule on the wireless network. Can't get into it to make any changes if I can't see it.

Hopefully someone will have a solution!

Do you have wireless enabled on the computer you are using to configure the AEBS? Have you tried using Ethernet to connect the Time Capsule? Have you tried to reset the Time Capsule?

When I go to network in system preferences it shows that Wi-Fi is connected and Ethernet is connected. Time Capsule is connected by eternet to iMac. Green lights are going to the back of Time Capsule so all is ok there.

Haven't tried a reset yet as I don't want to lose all my back-ups....

Is the computer's Ethernet port connected to the Time Capsule's LAN or WAN port? Should be the former.

Well, try connecting the Ethernet cable to the Belkin router's LAN port and keep the Airport enabled on the computer.

BTW, Motorola makes a whole line of Surfboard cable modems. Check with your cable internet provider to find out what cable modems are compatible with their system.

Just to check - computer is connected to Time Capsule LAN, Belkin modem is connected to Time Capsule WAN.

Airport Utility finds the internet connection but says "no configured AirPort base stations have been found" and keeps searching but finds nothing.....

I'm in NZ and have looked for cable modems, my provider Telecom NZ only offers a modem/router combo... 😟

Remove the Ethernet cable between the Belkin and the AEBS. See if this allows the Time Capsule to connect to the wireless network created by the Belkin router. Be sure to enable the wireless port on the computer and establish a wireless connection to the Belkin router. Then see if the AEBS shows up in Airport Utility.

EDIT:

Another thought. I'd like you to turn off everything. Wait one minute. Then in sequence:

Turn on the Belkin device and wait for the status lights to show a connection to the ISP.
Turn on only the AEBS and wait for the status light to begin blinking.
Turn on the computer. Check Network preferences to see that you have a connection to the Belkin with a valid IP address.
If possible configure the Belkin router's DHCP to give out IP addresses that begin with 10.0.1.2 through 10.0.1.200.

The AEBS is configured for this address range by default.

Reset the TC by pressing the reset button with a pen for 5 seconds. Then try to configure it. Make sure you set it up in bridge mode so that the TC is not running DHCP or NAT.

That's what we've been trying to do from the start, but he cannot get Airport Utility to detect the Time Capsule. We've been through the resets already.

Do you have any other ideas after you take a chance to read the entire topic?

Sorry, there are a lot of posts here, but I didn't see that you tried that. The reset button on the back of the unit though will return the TC to factory defaults and normally, this will alow airport utility to detect it as a new base station to configure.
