How do i get my laptop to access the itunes library on my external drive hooked up to my desktop via my home network?

Kappy thanks for the quick reply. This is exactly what I don't know how to do. What is the the right format to enter the location of the itunes media folder when accessing a remote location over a network? Everything I've tried hasn't worked. What really ***** is that I have my iphone synced to my laptop and manually sync my music as I have about a one terabyte of music on my external drive. My external drive is connected to my desktop via a firewire and my desktop connects to the network via my home wi-fi network. 95% of my music is stored on the external drive. the remaining 5 % is split between the hard drive on my desktop and the HD on my laptop. This was easy when I was syncing my iphone to my desktop only, but I rarely use the desktop anymore and now sync my iphone to my laptop. Hope this helps with any suggestion you have. I think I know the answer (you can't do that) but I'm hopeful someone can help me out.

Thanks for your patience. I thought I was a little computer savvy but I must be an idiot. Would you believe it has been the difference between clicking the file and double clicking the the file. I am an idiot. Hopefully this works. right now my laptop is organizing the files of 1 TB of music which is gonna take quite awhile. At least now I'll be able add and delete music from my phone again. But I have another question. How can i access my entire library of music when I'm at work on my works wi-fi? Any ideas?

My problem was I have 1 TB of music and only about 40 GB left open on my laptop. What Kappy told me to do worked.

I looked at that but I'm way over 25K tracks.
