Q: OSX 10.8 and Canon LBP6300dn

Hi!

I upgraded a few days ago to OSX 10.8 from 10.6, but now my Canon LBP6300dn is not working. The printer is connected to my router (ethernet) and I'm using WiFi on my MBA.

Firstly, even if I follow the instructions that come with the driver I get an error message that says: "Cannot connect to printer." Secondly the problem is that when I print a page it get an error message that says: "Printer busy". I tried to re-install the drivers, but nothing helps. Has someone else had this same problem?

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Assuming you are somewhere in Europe based on the language in the System Information (I assume it is French) then I would recommend you use the UK English CAPT driver, not the US English version. Here is a link from Canon Australia.

And yes, having the same information on both machines would be a problem. So I await your update.

Ok, so I did it and I confirm I do not get the same URI, even when using the UK CAPT driver.

As a comparison, I checked with another shared printer that works well (Canon Pro 9000 Series).

With the LBP6300, when I try to print from the MacBook, I see it in the queue on the macBook screen but it nevers appears on the queue on the MacPro. After a few seconds, the queue of the MacBook pauses. I try relaunching but nothing happens.

In the System informations I have :

So what is stopping the LBP queue from being created correctly on the MacBook?

Has the CAPT driver ever been installed on the MacBook? If you open Finder and select Go > Go to Folder and then type

    /Library/Printers/Canon

and press Go. Do you see a CUPSCAPT folder?

Also, using Go > Go to Folder, type

    /Library/Caches/Canon

and press Go. Do you see a CUPSCAPT folder?

If yes to either (or both) then it indicates that the driver was installed on the MacBook. On my MacBook that was connecting to the shared printer on the iMac, I do not have a CUPSCAPT folder in either location.

    ALLELLUIA !!!!!!!

Yes there was a previous installation of CAPT driver on the Macbook

I trashed everything on the Macbook : both CUPSCAPT folders + all Canon related files in the Printers>PPDs>Contents>Resources folder

Then I restarted the Macbook and in Prints and Scans, reinstalled the LBP6300 @ MacPro with UK CAPT Driver.

And now the printing from the Macbook works !

In the System Information of the Macbook I now have :

    LBP6300 @ Mac Pro de Julie :

    État:          Inactif

    Serveur d’impression:          À distance

    Par défaut:          Oui

    URI:          dnssd://LBP6300%20%40%20Mac%20Pro%20de%20Julie._ipps._tcp.local.

    PPD:          Canon LBP6300 CAPT (UK)

How can I thank you ?

    Pahu,

Yes I have been testing this when I can. The issue so far is that I cannot get the same error as you have. But I have to mention that my test iMac is using a clean install of 10.8.2. There is no import of previous user data or applications. I just use the installer to make a new 10.8.2 volume and then install the CAPT driver.

One way that I managed to print was that I shared the printer on my MBP (OSX 10.6.8). I was able to add the printer, but this is actually no good solution for me.

As earlier, with LDP it get the error message "Printer busy" when I try to print.
