I have the current iTunes, which has updated with out issue for new iPod touch and iPod Classic. iTunes states the my 2G iPod Touch is up to date. I would like to update so that I can use apps on this iPod. Any suggestions?

I suspect you have a 1G (original) iPod touch. Those can go to 3.1.3 that yo get here:

Also, what specific version of iTunes do your have? The latest you have depends upon the computer OS and version.
I have a 2G iPod Touch.
My iTunes is version 11.0.
When I ask to update the iPod, iTunes replies that it is up to date (at iOS 1.1.5).

What model number is on the back of the iPod?
I have an iPod touch 2G. It will not update the iOS beyond 1.1.5.
