MacBook won't boot

I have changed the permissions of my startup disk and need to edit them so I can actually boot up.

I can't access safe mode, presumably because the disk has no access rights.

I can get into single user mode

In Single user mode I have tried

mount -uw /

chown root /

chmod 1775 /

exit

But it still wont boot.

Please help
