Mail multiplying emails in one folder

My Mail application suddenly started duplicating emails in one specific folder (on Gmail account). Even after I delete the copies (sometimes as many as 50 or more) it just starts multiplying them again. Any solutions?

MacBook Pro 13inch, Mac OS X (10.6.3)
