java will not work on my mac

I too am having this problem. I contacted Apple support to be told that it is because Oracle have been having issues with hackers. I have done some research and it would appear that Java still works fine on Windows based PCs but not on Macs. Some people have been told by Apple Support that it is For Their Own Good.

I have only had my Mac 2 weeks but if I cannot do what I want to do on it and not what Apple say I can do then I will sell it and get a windows based PC.

I'm also having this issue with Java. I've updated Java. I've also uninstalled and re-installed it. I have verified Java is installed and is enabled. I'm a photographer. Java is part of the many ordering systems used by my album companies and also my online gallery provider. I have to use their ROES software which is Java based. The upload tool for the online gallery provider also is Java based. I can't place any orders or upload any photos to my galleries as none of the programs will work. I've contacted all of the companies. They are telling me that the last update Apple did on 2/1 is causing the problem with Java. Now what do I do? I have 3 iMacs, plus 2 Macbook Pros. I'm too heavily invested with my Apple products and all of my software to even consider switching to a hated Windows based PC. Help!!

A lot of companies have not upgraded their Java based software to work with Java 7 yet, so that may be the problem with your desktop Java apps.

Safari is another matter. Apple has blocked use of the Java 6 plug-in and has not announced a plan to upgrade Java 6 for Lion / Mountain Lion yet. You might be able to use Firefox with Java 6 by agreeing to override the warning they give you. If you are not able to use your browser on a web site with Java 7 then follow these instructions to restore the Java 6 plug-in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559.

What browser are you using or what are you trying to do when you see the Plugin Blocked message?

You should be able to verify Java is installed and enabled by opening Java from System Preferences and clicking on the Security tab. There should be a checkbox to enable Java content in the browser.

I'd also recommend checking the Update tab just to make sure it has installed Update 13 properly, if not it may prompt you to download and install it again.

Have you tried downloading Oracle's Java 7u13, installing it on your Mac's, and then using the Java Control Panel to enable the web plugin and making sure that your browsers have Java enabled? I'm running 7u13 on both Firefox and Safari with no problems.

I'm really upset, too. In Italy as lawyer I have a software from the Public Administration working on Java that is the only way to acces to data of trial and comunications with Tribunals. Now I have no way to interact. I have installed the JAVA 7 v. 13 today but it's still not working.

Any advice?

I have Java 7u11 running in both Safari and Firefox - haven't had a problem with any page using Java thus far. Can you provide a url link to a page that you're having problems with? I can try it and see if I can get it up and running in both Safari and Firefox.

Why have you not installed 7u13 yet? I don't know of anybody having problems with it and ther were 50 vulnerabilities patched. All the folks with problems seem to be those that must still use Java 6.

It's a HUGE issue in Denmark, where you need JAVA to sign on to online banking, tax - well everything from the official Denmark,

The thing is that the latest OS update wont allow Java to work with SAFARI.

It is suggested that you use FIREFOX, in which java still works... for the most parts!

Media in Denmark is reporting, that the Danish government is making a demand to APPLE - or else...

Apple is doing this to satisfy the security needs of the customer but Java just gets worse with each release. Apple is still waiting for Sun to make a version of Java that does not have Semi truck size security holes in it. Sun makes Java not Apple, Denmark needs to change who they yell at.

I've downloaded the latest Java update 7u13. I have no problem surfing the internet. The ordering systems that my album/print companies use is a standalone program/app that runs on Java. I am not on Safari or Firefox when using these programs (that I am aware of). I open the software for ROEs (the ordering system) and I'm immediately connected to the company to order. There is no other way to order. Same thing with my online galleries for uploading photos to my gallery company. My business is at a total standstill...I have clients wanting their orders and their online gallery.

So basically what I'm hearing is that with my ordering tools/apps/programs or whatever terminology you want to use for them, I am in a very bad situation until Java does something. This is really, really, really bad. I wish Apple would have let everyone know this was coming so they could keep up. Clients will be very upset with me and the only lame answer I can give is that it is out of my control. Yeah, try telling that to a bride or her mother.

I'm in the same boat as Emidee. Running 10.8.2 with latest java, everything is up to date. Can't run ROES ordering system. I know other photographers who apparently are successful after updating, but I can't.

Instead of the ROES downloading from the site, I get a launch.jlnp file (2 KB). When clicking on it, nothing happens.

When checking my version of Java on Safari or FF, they both work, and show installed and running the latest version.

If I try to right click the jlnp file and open with "Java Web Services", again, nothing happens.

Really hindering my ability to serve clients with this issue....

Any ideas?

hoo, if you get any solutions, please, please let me know. I'm frantic. Talked to Black River Imaging today and they said other people updated and were fine. Don't know why it's not fine for me. You're describing my exact same problem. I have the launch.jlnp file but nothing happens. I've checked my versions of everything on everything...even went to Oracle/Sun/Java website and confirmed everything is running and installed correctly. I'm at my wits end. 😟

I hope someone can give us the info we need. And hopefully they don't start at step 6 by assuming we already know steps 1-5. The person at BRI always assumed I knew how to get to all the files on my Mac and I would have to spend so much time on Google figuring out the 3 steps I needed to get to her Step 1. smh

I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing your problem here. Are you saying that ROE used to work with 7u11 and now you are unable to complete an order? Were you previously using Java 6 with ROE? Is ROE currently launching and connecting properly as you say above?

MadMacs0....sorry if I wasn't clear. What I should have said...when things work, when I open ROES for BRI, I am immediately connected to the company...it is not done through Safari or Firefox in any way that I can tell. (someone had asked for a url so they could check it out...there is no url since I am connected directly to the company) I should have been a little clearer. Up until this latest Apple update, which occurred sometime last week, I was having no problems with any of my album companies and their ROES programs or with my online gallery company and uploading images using their Java program. I did not realize there was a problem until this weekend when I tried to place orders and tried to upload to my online gallery hosting company.

ROES is not currently launching at all. I uninstalled the ROES program for Black River Imaging (album company) because they advised that maybe the program somehow was still reading the old Java version. I updated everything...both my Mac and Java (and verified through the Java website that the update worked). I went to Black River Imaging to once again download their ROES app onto my Mac. It downloaded, but now it will not launch/install/run/connect. I no longer have their ROES app on my Mac...this is a serious business issue for me.

Hopefully this is more clear. At this point I have no idea what to do. And having BRI tell me that other people have it running successfully after updating really doesn't solve my problem. Yay for them, but I still need serious help. 😟
