    To throw something else into the mix: I had to install java on both my macbook and imac. Macbook no problem, installation fails on imac.

    There is nothing in your profile to tell us what hardware and software you own, so you'll have to tell us. Also, what version of Java SE are you trying to install, 6 from Apple or Oracle's 7 or 8?

     

    Note that this thread is way over a year old, so most of it no longer applies to you.

    Many thanks - sorry I'm not too clued up on the etiquette. I've added to my profile, also followed instructions for installing the apple 6 SE and then re-enabling the plugin - I'll see how that works.
