I have lost 3100 songs during ipod transfer.

I was attempting transfer my songs from my ipod to a new computer after my last computer was stolen. I selected all the music files (3500 total) in the 'ipod_control" file, and moved them into the "automatically add to itunes" file. Once the process had completed, only about 300 showed up in itunes. The rest of the songs are not to be found on the computer anywhere. The songs still appear on the ipod, but are now unplayable. I should have originally copied the files during the transfer. Since I put the files in the "automatically added to itunes" folder, when checking, there are no files in that folder. Is there anywhere my songs would be. Where could I look? There 3100 total missing music files. The ipod is the generation befer the classic. Luke
