I've successfully set up my work email (exchange) on my iPhone & iPad and everything syncs fine.
I also want to set it up on Outlook for Mac (2011) but the exact same settings will not work on Outlook.
By the way, I've tried this with both the VPN on and off (not using VPN on iPad & iPhone).
Am I missing something?

Yes..a discussion with your IT dept or Exchange admins. Nobody here would know what settings for you to enter, so contact them.

all I got was "we told you not to buy a Mac"
We still can't help you here as we know nothing of your exchange server. They can still provide you with the correct server settings. Those have nothing to do with owning a Mac.
It's not the settings that I need... I have the settings...
apparently you don't if it's not working. ActiveSync settings for a mobile device are not necessarily the same settings used for Exchange web services used by Outlook.
